My youngest dropped his iPod touch yesterday and broke the external screen; poor lad was distraught. Anyone know how hard it is to repair or, where I can send it off to?
Ta.
Assume it's the same as an iPhone screen. Really very easy, screens are about 20 quid on the ebay. I've done two, both were fine. Just take your time and assuming you've ever used a screwdriver before then you'll be good.
Top tips...
1) Buy one of the kits that come with the tools
2) Have a few little pots to hand (yogurt pots) so you can keep the different size screws seperate
3) If you're just replacing the glass (if the LCD isn't shagged as well) then cut the sticky double sided tape into pieces - makes it much easier to place accurately.
My lads friend broke his.
£70 ,no idea where he went though.
i used these guys to repair the wifes about 2 months ago....

they didnt repair the screen - powerbutton, headphone jack and a new back... but they were very good.
i may even have a £off voucher at work if you want it.
If it is less than a year old (still under warranty) try taking it to an apple store.
I broke my screen a couple of weeks ago and took it to my local apple store. They gave me a brand new iPod, free of charge. They said it was a customer service gesture.
if you do go down the route of the ebay replacement screen its a much MUCH easier job if you purchase the replacements with all the gubbins, i.e. button, digitiser, sticky bits etc already assembled.
If you want an even easier time ... just send it to

They did an old 3gs for £50 and was as good as a new one.
A replacement glass for an iPhone 4, fitted while you wait, is less than £25 at the Apple Store. Doesn't seem worth doing it yourself at that price if you can get to one.
£115 for a reconditioned one if you've damaged more than the glass
The Iphone screen assembly is completely different from the touch, the iphone is very easy where as the touch is very tricky (I've repaired a few for friends and family)
But still not too hard, I would suggest you go on youtube and look for the relevant(2nd/3rd/4th gen) repair videos and see if you would like a go, then get a full digitizer assembly including the frame from ebay (approx £10/15)so you don't have to worry about breaking the old one.
Some hints, don't use a metal pry tool as it will dent/deform the metal housing, and be very careful with the lcd as it can get damaged very easily.
