Man the stations seem like such a rip off compared to the mini hifi's you an get which include DAB and a CD player.

I can get a Bose Sounddock for £150 or a nifty Sony hifi for a similar price.

Any experiences or thoughts out there? It'll be my new main source of music in the house to keep things tidy and minimalist.

I'm not interested in the portability of the unit.

Cheers!

James

Hi Fi I reckon. The speakers in docking stations are universally pretty poor, so are the ones in Hi Fi units, but at least you'll get a free radio...

Get a decent amp and speakers and a line out for your Ipod. If you're spending less than a few hundred pounds go second hand - lots of bargains out there.

My brother has a cheap docking station and little tinny speakers and it's gash.
My folks have the little sony system with ipod dock and it's superb.

Thanks to all,
I think it should be a mini-hifi really. I don't want to use an amp and line out because I want the convenience of a remote control for the ipod.
I agree that the stations speakers are gash, although the Bose isn't too bad!

I've got one of these with a dedicated iPod docking station and it's pretty ace,TBH. Can put a USB stick in the front and also have the PC plugged into it.It's not as good as my ARCAM based separates system but, hey, after years of gig/rave/club volume abuse it's certainly more than adequate to my ears!

If you are going with the docker, I would suggest the Klipsch iGroove over the Bose. I just bought one after a fair amount of research and I'm not dissapointed -)

(google it and have a look at the reviews on Amazon)

Get a dock with a remote and line-out into your amp. Sorted.

Those docks with speakers are awful, just plug the ipod into a proper hifi.

Just taken delivery of one of these:Roberts MP43 - iPod connection, DAB/FM radio, CD and dual alarm clock - very easy to set up, and sound quality is excellent.
