We will be in touch
Hi all.
Just setting up the e-mail on my 4s.
It's a virgin media email account - everything works fine when receiving e-mail but will only send if connected to WI-FI not the network (which is Three) .
Can work out what the problem is.
Any help would be appreciated
Yup dead easy as your not on Virgins internet you can't send email through their servers, you need a smtp that allows you to use a server no matter how you connect.
Don't know if this works any more.
In your email client software, under Outgoing mail, set the SMTP server to smtp.gmail.com.Set the your username is yourgooglemailname@gmail.com and make sure "Use username and password" is checked.
Also check off "TLS" under "Use secure connection."
I'm not on aol's Internet anymore but send email through their servers?
Find out from Three what their SMTP server is and use that.
If I recall the info of their website was wrong when I used to use 3 Mobile broadband so had to phone them and ask for the correct settings
You either need to send using your service provider's (Three's) email server, or you need to authenticate to the server you're using with a username and password (which may also require a secure connection).
Doesn't really matter which, but if you try to use a 'foreign' outbound SMTP server (ie, Virgin's from a Three connection) you'll get binned off unless you can prove who you are.
And you can also set up more than one, primary should try sending first which if you spend most time at home sending emails then keep it as the wi fi one, secondary as... well as a secondary outlet for the email.
Problem with using 3's smtp is that when you hop onto another wireless network it may not work either.
DOH! You can of course do what Wrightyson says.
thanks guys , Much appreciated 🙂
I'm on O2 and my iphone sends email great from Virgin. It found everything automatically and worked immediately. Didn't have to tell it anything other than my email address and password.
HTH. 😉
