Wife spent ages finding the outdoor light she likes, it was described as an outdoor light, when I read the instructions it says rated IP33 which if I read the definitions means it wouldn't be resistant to rain over 60degrees. So that doesn't really make it an outdoor light for the uk does it?

Are these okay to use outside as marketed? the front door has the protection of the overhang but sure rain will hit it at a greater tha 60 angle.

That's quite hot for rain, I'm sure it'll be fine. (i'm ignoring your second para for comedic purposes)

EDIT - I got curious and looked up the IP thingy - that doesn't strike me as exactly weatherproof, but under an overhang I'd probably go for it.

It'll be fine, especially if under an over hang. Just make sure the cable entry as good, ideally not from the top, and there is some kind of drain hole at the bottom.
