Our 8 yr old Bosch integrated washer seems to have died in the heated element and I am ****ed if I am paying £220 to get it replaced and then a pump or other bit goes pop. Getting a new one is £400 but the freestanding equivalent is £250 - is it a matter of cutting the plinth to push the freestander in and job done?

Yep. But is it worth it the saving? Integrated stuff tends to look better in my view - obviously you're taste may differ.

When we've not gone integrated we've regretted it based upon looks

Never gone integrated due to the balls ache when they break and need replacing.

Yes. Just cut the plinth. Just bear in mind you'll have a gap at the floor and underneath the work top. It is annoying how much more integrated appliances are.

We've got a lovely Indesit Prime in as new condition, hardly used, freestanding, for sale for about £95 ono. We had to buy it as a stopgap (Mrs Gti doesn't "do" hand washing) in between our own integrated going phut and getting a new kitchen so for the moment it's in the garage being used as a shelf.

You can collect if you're in Lancashire.

Phhph, try paying the integrated plus the slimline surcharge. Pay more for even less. And it fills too quick now we've had kids. Pesky kids..

I replaced the integrated Smeg one we had with an integrated Bush one as was put off by the price of replacing it like for like. I was a bit dubious before buying as I thought it was really cheap - about £220 I think. But the reviews were really good so went ahead and it does a really good job. Pretty straightforward to fit as well - bit fiddly putting the door fascia on but apart from that not too bad.

If you can do without a dishwasher for 30 days take out a breakdown policy which is about £6 a month. You can't make a claim in the first 30 days but after that parts and labour are free.
