It might bring back memories for me. Any budding prison officers please watch!

There's a similar show on c4, I'd let them out one by one for 10 mins. If they soil their room they can clean it. They've all got a sob story, where as the poor bugger whose housetheyve robbedgas to deal with insurance firms orjust do without their possessions.

What happens to the normal people who get put away or are they all in open prisons

Depends what you class as normal. Less risk to the public means lower classification, Cat D is lowest (open prison) but you still get nasty scrotes in those as well.

By the lack of interest in the thread it seems like HMPS is still ‘The Forgotten Service’.

i caught a bit of this, it wasn’t something i could watch for long, felt very sorry for the wardens - just seemed they were responsible for overgrown, badly behaved, downright dangerous, children.

Essel, caught some on catch up. The prisoner that had slashed his own throat, is that normal to send another prisoner in to sort? I can see that the guy is angry/upset and prison guards aren’t who he ‘wants’ to see. But how does this play out if the nutty guy stabbed or cut another prisoner because the other prisoner had gone in by himself? I assume he didn’t have anything PPE wise on?
Just seems like a court case waiting to happen. Can see the daily mail headline now. “Prison guards use prisoners when the going gets tough” (not that I agree with the headline)
I feel for the guards, how they (and you used to)put up with that crap day in day out I don’t know.

This is NOT a sexist remark: females should not work in male prisons.

The PO to prisoner ratio is downright dangerous. I'm surprised there haven't been more riots and even PO murders. The whole system is broken.

My S-i-L is a prison officer, in a mens prison and I've often wondered that but she says that she has an empathy and presence that seems to control and calm certain situations that a male officer might inflame.

Not saying you're wrong but there is a case for it.

Not a job I would relish, hats off to those who do.

I would imagine they would have to send in X amount of PO's in full riot gear to deal with the slashed up guy. Thus raising the temperature of the inmates watching. I thought the main PO had a good system ,and seemed to have the respect of the inmates. He let Tom Hardy have enough " control" to let him think he was in charge and by doing so kept him happy.
I would be happy to send one of them in first and sort out the Paper work later if something nasty happened than have one of my officers smashed up. 😉

Having had the pleasure to visit prisons I used a huge respect for prison officers even more so now it’s for shit money and conditions. I’ve never seen a reason why women shouldn’t be allowed in male prisons, I find it a very odd to think why you would have an issue.

I watched the one on Channel 4.

Pretty tough watch. An absolutely thankless task.

WTF you could actually do with some of those people I don't know.

I think it was obvious that he was simply referring to the physicality of the job. The fact that you have so few officers that if it kicks off, a 60kg female is at a distinct disadvantage, compared to a 90kg male, even if you allow for training and equipment.

Having worked in a prison with a fair amount of female staff I didn't have an issue with it. Far too many nice looking young women coming into the job now though, all made up looking like they're off for a night out in uniform. There are some female staff I wouldn't scrap with!
Did seem a bit odd that that guy was allowed in to see the lad who'd slashed up before healthcare mind.

Not all men are muscle bind over feet tall and not all women are fragile and petite.

Never said they are.

Just for clarity, it wasn't me that said women should not work in male prisons.

However, typically a man is bigger, heavier and stronger than a woman.

If I was going to be in a group of "average" people and having to defend myself from physical violence, I would much prefer to be in a group of "average" men than "average" women.

It takes all sorts of staff to control order in a prison, from the demure little Miss who can talk a prisoner down from being a raging bull to crying baby, to the big ex military/rugby playing meathead Boss's who can get hands on if little Miss doesn't succeed. I've seen Miss Matthews & Miss Bould drop a big lad together & Mr H run away from an altercation & the opposite direction when the bell goes off.
Lots of youngsters in the job now with little life experience, who look at themselves in the uniform & go in all guns blazing, which is asking for trouble.

Essel nails it.

I know it wasn’t you said women shouldn’t be in male prisons but you used a crap stereotype to defend Derek’s absolutely not sexist at all post.

Didn't defend his post.

You posted that you didn't understand what why he didn't want females in male prisons. It was quite obvious what he meant. You knew what he meant.

Why didn't you just call him a sexist in the first place?

You knew what he meant.

I’ve no idea why he thinks that sorry. He’s NOT being sexiest he’s made that clear.
