Simply incredible - what a pilot, what a team.
Thank the gods these blokes and their equipment exist!
That does look impressive 😯
I've seen normally desk bound very high ranking airforce officers, flying helicopters simply to get their flying hours in, the pig's ears they made of take off and landing had to be seen to be believed. The pilot in that clip certainly had no shortage of skill imho 8)
Ha ha! If anyone had looked at this thread:

and followed polarisandy's link to his videos, you'd have seen it a few days ago 🙂
Very impressive. A mate was airlifted from Innerleithen on saturday. Big thanks to the Air ambulance, paramedics, police and uplift scotland guys.
We got involved in a mountain Rescue a few weeks ago, we were asked to rescue a stranded couple off a climb near Snowdon, but then were told that the RAF rescue heli was coming to get them, so we left them to it.
They had to move in close to the rock face to get the couple off, my flickr pics and video are here RAF Rescue Heli Pics and Vid on page 1 and 3
Extemely good piloting, they risk there lives to help others superb set of professionals.
Friends wife had bad crash last week and suffered vertabrie injuries and lots of broken bones, she had to be airlifted to hospital. The pilot landed near by but it was decided she was to badly injured to carry to the Helicopter so asked the pilot to get closer. The path is about 10ft wide and sloping although the picture makes it look pretty much level.
She is starting to make a good recovery 😀
Gotta have balls of steel for that, some serious skill on display especially when you consider how complicated it is to fly a helicopter.
Maybe an organised whip round would also be nice, they don't run on thin air you know. 😉
Pah. He only landed the back end, how hard can that be?
😯
😉
In all seriousness that's pretty standard piloting isn't it (not saying it doesnt take skill etc)? On all of the TV "air rescue, camera, action" type shows you see they "rest" one end or one wheel on the floor while unloading. All the heli-ski pilots rest a skid on the floor while letting the boarders disembark at tough spots. It's the ones where they get the rotors within inches of the hillside in gusty winds that seem more impressive to me, rather than the dead-still days with a wheel down.
Good on them though, glad people like this exist!

nice film, good to see it highlight the "mad skillz" the pilots have, for sure, though im with coffeeking: standard procedure for mountain rescue i think?
seen a few on the boob tube where the commentator rambles on about using a single side wheel as an anchor point, just to stop the helicopter moving around while its being loaded, without actually landing it.
saw one where a gust got hold of the chopper and it had a bit of a swing on the side wheel too!
bet that was about as scary as it gets for the pilot?
While not wishing to take anything away from the people involve in this rescue, who appear to have done an excellent job, I have seen much more impressive piloting skills by rescue choppers in the mountains. I this case they were on top of the ridge rather than on a face and the weather looked rather nice.
For example - hovering to winch a casualty, about 20m from a cliff in 60mph winds and about 30m visibility.
This sort of thing goes on all the time in Scotland in the winter, and the helicopter flying in the alps is mind blowing!
Mate of mine used to be at RAF Valley and as part of their ongoing the Sea King pilots used to go mushroom picking without touching the ground 🙂
Polarisandy took the footage as he was the doc on the rescue, was watching via flickr last week.
Anyone read Chickenhawk? Some hair raising stuff in that... plus add being shot at!
