I think this is a record for me.

Apart from about an hour on Tuesday night, I have not slept now for almost 90 hours although I may have the math wrong, you should understand I'm a little hazy right now.

I'm in a very special place previously only encountered during my younger, experimental years. At this stage, things move. They don't spin around the room, but I can see them moving out of the corner of my eye. Everything has an aura, many things have become autonomous, some have eyes. I stop and stare...for long periods. It's taken me longer than normal to type this, I proof read, again and again because someone else is typing it and he's shit at spelling.

I'm screaming, but no-one can hear me.

Last night was the worst. I fidgeted and tossed and turned, I got up, I read, I drank warm milk. I've done all the right things, I've avoided alcohol and caffeine (ius that how you spell caffeine, it looks odd), I've been riding every day, I've even meditated.

I rode home from work today in a trance. I fell into bed with my riding clothes on and just lay there for an hour. Not sleeping. I got up. My mouth is always open.

Tonight I will kill it with booze. Drunk sleep is better than no sleep. Break the sysle.

I take it this in Insomnia rather than some self induced torture?

I'm in a similar state just now, but managing some sleep. Pressure is on to study and move on with certs at work and have lot going on outside of work. Need to relax, but 24/7 seem in a state of constant agitation which means I'm struggling to concentrate on anything work or non work related for more than 5 minutes. When was the last time you had a holiday? I mean a minimum 14 days off work away from everything?

I had a good holiday at christmas and obviously we've just had a long weekend. dunno. there's nthing specifically running around my head although we're going through the process of buyinga new house, I don't feel particularly stressed over it though.

As a lifelong insomniac, I can tell you that there is no such thing as a one stop magic cure all.
I've tried many many different things over the years, none of which work for every occasion.

You'll know how your own body ticks better than anyone else & if you spot it getting out of normal habits, try and nail it at that point.

I'm not a big fan of alcohol as a cure as it doesn't work...simple as. But, I know myself, that if I'm getting out of a sleep pattern then downing half a bottle of red wine will knock me out....sure, I'll wake up at 3 or 4 am, but at least until that point, I've been out cold ! - sometimes, a couple of simultaneous nights on half a bottle of red willbring me back to a more normal pattern.

Better get it sorted, even if it means doing that very un-blokey thing of seeking help.
Going through life in a sleep deprived spaced out haze is not good.

Good luck !

Chris

The old school (tricyclic) antidepressant Amitriptyline has a good reputation for inducing really solid sleep. I know a number of people who've been prescribed it and say they had the best sleep of their life on it.

Dali used to do no sleep to create his work. Used to do a week at a time.

Get your paintbrush out.

Got a good 2.5 hours last night. Still very odd but that's taken the edge off.

Funny you should say that....

Mate, go see your gp. Lack of sleep with mess you up properly. I find there is nothing worse than looking at a bedroom ceiling for hours on end. Your demons come visit at times like that.

Go speak to your gp.
