My GF got some light from Ay-Up, went through the order got them and now have a demand for extra import duty, mistake really but they don't mention it on the ordering pages just on the shipping page. So now it adds another £60 to the bill.

From what I had head most people dont seem to get charged importing bike gear, any particular reason for this??

Mike, whilst it is frustrating you must have known about it?!? Does it still work favourably?

Those that don't pay import duty are lucky and have effectively avoided it thus breaking the law.

Most of the money is UK VAT which is fair enough, however there is also £15 for "Deferment Procural Fee", essentially this is TNT charging you £15 to pay the duty and send you an invoice.

Its annoying but TNT will take the "standard fee" line with you. I paid it in the end because I was having a load of hassle in work and didn't need any more for the sake of £15. I reckon they have set it at £15 because they reckon most people will pay up, they are still making a healthy profit on it.

You can't really complain, You are importing something and it is subject to import duty. Sometimes you don't get charged, sometimes you do. Luck of the draw

worked out bit more expensive as £ is rubbish, AU tax is 10% and VAT is 15%.

Annoying thing is that we have friends coming over who could have brought it with them
