...or should that be Imidginary?

For the past three night I have been driven mad by the sensation of tiny insects crawling on my face and in my hair.
Except they aren't actually there. Close observation has failed to reveal the existence of any actual pests.

Only in the evenings after about 7 pm . I haven't changed any washing products or similar which could be causing this.

Google tells me this sensation is called formication and that i may be currently undergoing one or more of the following :

Menopause (I'm a bloke)
Withdrawal from Crystal Meth / cocaine / other addiction ( Nope)
On the verge of alcoholic seizures (Complete lightweight in the booze stakes)
Mercury poisoning (Highly unlikely)

How do I make them stop? ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Spiders living in your crevices that come out to feed on the crumbs left over from your naked biscuit munching. Well known fact.

I think you'd need a very small bottom indeed to be able to poo crumbs.

I'm also getting this sensation at night whilst lying in bed, I put it down to new meds I'm on. It's not constant and mainly on my forehead

^^^ That's what it feels like. It's infuriating.

On my face , particularly around my eyes and ears and in my hair. ๐Ÿ˜ก

I sympathise. Used to have facial eczema, and that wasn't pleasant.

My first step would be to take a 24-hour non-drowsy antihistamine for a few days to see if that lessens the effect. There is still a chance that something in your diet has triggered an allergic reaction. If it stays the same, at least you've eliminated that kind of thing, and can move onto other potential causes, such as syphilis.

And don't scratch it!

Not on the itchy stakes but I have a small floater in my eye which for months I thought was midges and went around waving hands in front of my face.

Have you been near any bees?

Could be hives

Did you watch that midge film too much

Have you considered that they may not be imaginary, just invisible?

Maybe try imagining tiny bats flying around your bedroom?
Pipistrelles can munch their way through 3,000 midges a night!

I get this sometimes. I generally put it down to fine hairs from the missus and kids ending up on my pillow and tickling my face.

But to be honest it's probably dust mites and bed bugs.

Did you know we all have tiny parasites called Demodex that live at the base of our hair and eyelash follicles?

Have you changed the moisturiser or after shave balm you use?* Apart them being in your hair, I had this for ages - felt like they were burning into my face after a while.

Turns out Nivea changed their ingredients and I was allergic to one of them. Changed to Dove/No7 and it's all fine now.

*Apologies if you are a proper man with intensive beardiness

Nope. No change of products of any kind. No new medication. Nothing.

Nope. Although I could be doing with a wee calf.

Or a fortnight if I can get it.

I'm truly disappointed. 25 odd posts and nobody has suggested the bad Cat Aids yet...... or Sudocrem.

Standards are slipping.

balls, only clicked on the thread to post 'imiginary' but it's bindun in the OP, which is poor sport.

Whatever you do, don't google 'm o r g e l o n s'. Simply don't do it. That's 'morg elons'. One word.

Sounds silly maybe but there are actually a few cancers that may first exhibit as unexplained itching

might be worth a visit to the docs to be on the safe side

Some allergies can appear unexpectedly, while some can disappear over time. On this basis, I would try the antihistamine suggestion, and see what effect it has.

I would also go to the doctor and have a chat about it.

Not just you, last night for about an hour I had the exact same sensation and when I closed my eyes to go to sleep almost had a perfect image of midges flying against a light source constantly in my vision ๐Ÿ™

I had had a fair few drinks over the weekend & only 3 1/2 hours sleep from the day before mind?
