.....make sure it’s ‘ice guardians’. About the role of enforcers (the guys who protect their team mates and fight in ice hockey). I’m not a massive ice hockey fan, but like sport

was expecting loads of macho BS, but a genuinely fascinating documentary, somewhat reflecting society through the prism of sport. Goes in depth on the whole concussion in sport issue which is a hot topic across the board, and the whole dynamics of tough players lcrwating the opportunity for skiful players to play better & longe. On Netflix, we’ll worth 90 mins of your time

Ended up watching this some time ago - pretty sure I recommended it to Saxon Rider, he being a hockey fan.

I found it utterly gripping. Had no idea what to expect when it started but I couldn’t switch it off once it got going. Listening to the lists of injuries the”enforcers” had during their career...sheesh. As you say, it touches on many more issues as it develops

But anyway, yeah, great recommendation. Well worth a watch.

Yep, the very definition of “I went to s fight and an ice hockey game broke out”. I was fortunate enough to go and watch the Philadelphia Flyers at the end of the ‘Broad Street Bullies’ era several times (when most teams had one enforcer, most of the Flyers could fight), mass brawls and chaos, a spectacle to see and worked as as tactic of making the other team so scared of you they would try anything!

Also there is a great film just out called the last race. It’s a documentary About an old stock car track in USA. Beautifully shot, very very good!

There's also another good one on the same subject called "The Last Gladiators"

It's gripping and fascinating the way it changed the sport, the way it meant other players could play and what the enforcers sacrificed for a career in hockey.

wife out tonight so have managed to watch about 1/2 - 2/3rds

Very impressed. I never realised the culture of the enforcer; I'm not a hockey fan particularly but did go and watch Durham a fair few times back in the late 80's when I was up there at University so well aware of the physical nature of it and just thought it boiled over occasionally. Found it very eye-opening that effectively these guys are there with honest intentions to dissuade the opposition from targeting their stars because if they did they knew that the bad guy would then be coming for them.

I've just started into the section where they start looking at concussion and the effect of the big hits. Jeez...... in slow motion and HD!

**** me was that boring.....

Tried to watch it last night but got bored half way through. Was so slow paced and at 1:45 it could have been condensed somewhat. I gave up after an hour.

Really am still none the wiser why they need to punch each other.

Tried watching some film about wild fires that was recommended on the Netflix thread. Also a load of crap.

Will take these recommendations with a pinch of salt!

So that the other players can play hockey and not have to get punched / crosschecked / slammed into the boards every 2 minutes.

I just ate a bowl of soup on a recommendation from a thread last week that claimed it was the best soup ever. I didn't like it.

I tried the so-called ‘new’ classifieds. Full of old stuff. What gives?
