M-cozzy voting BNP. What a surprise.. 🙄
+1
I was hoping the thread would look after itself, but I'll count at the end to ensure fairness if needs be.
Not wishing to throw doubts on my impartiality, but I slso got the distinct impression that STW was a hornets nest of Toryboys!
The polls aren't closed yet though..

I wonder if being seen as a toryboy is so uncool that as your vote is public in this topic, it is effecting the outcome. Apparently there is always a discrepency with what the general populus say to polsters outside the polling station and where they put their cross.
M-cozzy - I'm thinking of a well loved three word phrase, see if you can guess what it is. It starts with 'nazi' and ends with 'monkey'. There's a 'cock' in the middle, and you're it. Now should I 'sod off to burka land' and wring my hands?. You sir, are the end of a bell.

They're probably all at work (I have a day off).
Really? As they need more votes per seat than Labour I'd say thay Labour have a disproportionate voice.
How do you work that out?
They only need one more vote per seat to beat Labour, just like all the other candidates
They're particularly poor for not having great swathes of voters in single constituencies though

Maybe they're just more desperate to share their opinions (in my opinion).
uplink - the constituencies suit labour more than the tories.
Interestingly the seats have changed now so that the hung parliament in '74 would now be a Labour victory and the '92 Tory victory would now be a hung parliament.
uplink - the constituencies suit labour more than the tories.
Yes they do but they don't [as you said] need more votes per seat - other than 1 more
All figures relate to 2005 general election)
Conservatives polled 8,781,932 votes winning 210 seats = 41,819 votes per seat
Labour polled 9,570,458 votes winning 349 seats = 27,423 votes per seat
Liberal Democrats polled 5,981,509 winning 62 seats = 96,476 votes per seat
Lowest vote share to win a seat in 2005 Parliament
16,268 votes in North Down for Ulster Unionist candidate
Source(s):
UK-Elect
But they still don't need more votes for each seat
You can add them all up & average them out to make it look like that but it's not the case - we don't have PR
It's like adding up how many goals each side has scored in the Premiership & saying the one with the most is the winner, that's just not how it works
seeing as we're talking about 'each' seat
My constituency at the last election
Labour 20643
Con 10239
LibDem 7269
If the LibDems had polled 20644 votes, they'd have won the seat -
that's just 1 more vote than Labour
Some sort of PR is a good idea but the LibDems need to work with the current system until/if it's changed
If the LibDems had polled 20644 votes, they'd have won the seat -
that's just 1 more vote than Labour
...but you are forgetting that if the number of Lib Dem votes increased the votes for the other parties may go down (depending upon whether the new Lib Dem votes came from previously apathetic people or floating voters)
..but you are forgetting
no I hadn't - I was just keeping it simple for the example
Let's hope that the Lib Dems do make a sizeable dent in the many Tory/Labour strongholds today.

Put each of the 3 main parties on 1/3 of the votes and see if you think that's fair. IMO PR isn't really the issue here it's the constituency boundaries/sizes.

I'm still undecided, so can I put down 0.5 votes for one party and 0.5 votes for another?
" IMO PR isn't really the issue here it's the constituency boundaries / sizes."
I agree. Lets move boundaries so there's a small constituency in the North Sea and put all the BNP supporter in it. They'll get a parliamentary seat, but it will be a bit damp 😉
Put each of the 3 main parties on 1/3 of the votes and see if you think that's fair
you were talking about each seat not them all combined
I've never argued that it would work out if you added them all together
You couldn't organise the constituencies to suit the LibDems if you tried so PR would be the only solution for them

Interesting, who'd have thought all those lib Dems. Clegg would be proud

With PR the size of the constituency is meaningless as your seats are proportional to your votes so with 33.3% each they would all have 1/3 of the seats. Simple. Near impossible to do this by simply altering constituency borders

That could just show that the Conservatives always have bigger winning margins in the seats where they win.
Imagine a 2 party system. Party A wins 49% of the seats with 100% of the vote in each seat. Party B wins 51% of the seats with 51% of the vote in each seat. Party B would win, despite only getting around 25% of the popular vote. First past the post, innit.
That could just show that the Conservatives always have bigger winning margins in the seats where they win.
Isn't it because of the poor turnout in most inner city Labour seats?
Isn't it because of the poor turnout in most inner city Labour seats?
That would make sense too. I know that in our council elections the traditionally Conservative wards have much better turnouts than the traditionally Labour.
The Tories have always been good at getting their vote out
For them, there's nothing that beats a rainy polling day
The Tories have always been good at getting their vote out
I wonder if the naked voter spotted by Jenny Chapman was a Tory?
Nah, naked?
It'll be one of those blumin' Liberals 😉

Not many people will admit to voting BNP, because they'll be lambasted even if they try to explain why. Just for the record, I didn't.

Indeed we will. I've never been much into politics but this one seems somehow more important.
