I'm loving 6Music in the day, pretty straight through from Laverne to Lamacq (apart from when they play Kate Bush, obviously 😉 ).

However, variety is always good, so are there any other similar interweb radio stations I should try?

Radio Paradise is worth a listen - no adverts (apart from asking people to donate to support the station) and the DJs mostly stick to playing music rather than talking shite.

On a similar tip, the guys in the workshop listen to Radio Caroline which is OK. Apart form the annoying git who does the morning show from LA.

Cheers,
Jamie

CBC Radio 2, although it's mostly Canadian indy music, there's lots of good, interesting stuff on there.
There's an Australian station that is very similar, almost a sister station, but I can't remember their name,

Triple J from Australia might be worth a shot.
I gave up on XFM when their playlist became Foo Fighters, RHCP, Foo Fighters, U2, repeat. That was a few years ago though - has it improved?

they've replaced U2 with QOTSA.
nah, I actually like it in small doses. if you listen to it all day during the day there's a lot of repepetitition.

Thanks, Nicko, it's Triple J I was trying to remember, they do have contact with 6Records from time to time.

There is repetition, but that's good cos you get to learn the songs you like and you can go out and buy the records. When I hear a good song on R6M (doesn't happen very often mind!) I never hear it again, so I'm left scratching my head trying to remember the band.

KEXP - Seattle based radio station - their website also has hundreds of live sessions by bands they have had in the studio - http://kexp.org/live/default.aspx

Is your username in tribute to the band holdsteady?

@mol, y'know they list the music played for each show on the 6music website?

Yes but that means being in front of the computer when it's on. If I'm driving or cooking or whatever, it's gone so I'd have to make a conscious effort to go back through it and find it. With repeition, I get to know the song and who it is.

I don't like too much repetition, of course, but I foudn that for me XFM had the right balance, and repeated tunes I love just enough.

Make a mental freakin note then if you can clear all the other shite out of your head for a second. 🙂

Mental note? Of every song? Whilst I'm busy doing other jobs?

Why have I never thought of that before?!

Well that was sarcasm. Of course I try and make a mental note, obviously, but I never remember.

I do. And if I think I won't, I'll just do a little voice memo into my phone. But I nearly always remember. I just relate the time of the day to a little story about my dog. You should try it.

Then try that. Or use something else mol. To be honest, if lateral thought is evading you this much, I can see why you'd like repetitive music stations.

Maybe I can hang a pad and pen around my neck when I put the radio on, then I can write it down.

Apparently they reorganised the stations so it's only available in SOME areas. Cheers 🙄

Now you're not being quite serious mol. I was only trying to help. Stop being so obstreperous. 😐

JJJ, JJJ Unearthed, and ABC Dig Music, all from the Aussie version of the BBC

3D radio is a local station in Adelaide that plays music mostly even more left-field than 6Music

Me too. I do like a bit of chat and features on 6Music though, I'd soon get bored listening to it full time.

Cheers,
Jamie
