MobileMe is soon to die, along with iDisk (unless anyone knows different?).
I currently share files across 4 apple devices using iDisk. This is a combination of work and personal files.
I'm currently try to decide if the 50gig pro drop box account will be able to replicate the functionality.
Anyone done it? Any other providers to consider?

I use the free Dropbox without any problems from my Mac, iOS and Windows devices. Works a treat. There's nothing stopping you using the free version just now to see how it works for you.
There have been a few security scares - so look into it a bit if you're planning to keep anything sensitive on the disk.
I've found it a good deal slicker than iDisk - seems to work better (more reliable syncing), is faster and has some pretty powerful versioning tools so you can get previous versions and deleted files back etc.
EDIT - it'll do some photo sharing etc. but I've not really used this. It seemed to be when I looked that this was a lot less full featured than MobileMe's galleries.
Is apple not bringing out a new rival to dropbox, or was that google?
So what does icloud do then ?

So what does icloud do then ?
Good question. For the life of me I can't work out what it does for me. There doesn't seem to be a way to save general files in the cloud unless it has come through an Apple software (e.g. iPhoto). I don't seem to be able to use it to share/backup Word/Excel files, or any other files for that matter. And I don't like iPhoto, so it's no good for backing up photos either.
Someone let me know where/if I'm doing something wrong.....
I use dropbox to sync all our computers at home and work and find it a godsend. Works really well and quickly in the background. The only issues I have found are:
Cant sync iPhone, iPad data into it. (I guess this is where iCloud could be better)
Cant sync iPhoto into it as iPhoto goes all funny and it takes ages each time it reserves the database file. Seems like the same problems with iTunes as well
I started off just using it as an emergency backup which it is great for as it keeps versions of documents as well, bit like time machine.
It will be brilliant when someone comes out with a product that handles photos and music but keep copies stored on the device to keep download and access speeds fast. Biggest problem with all the streaming options for cloud computing is generally download speeds aren't fast enough. Or they might be fast on say your office computer but not your phone.
