Pretty sure it's not a baby robin, bigger than a mallard, head is dark grey.

Probably a cross with a farm duck breed, it doesn't look like any native duck.

As above, a mongrel mallard/somethingelse hybrid. Mallard are randy buggers that'll pretty much rape any female duck regardless of species. There was one chasing a female out onto the Bath Road by the river in Chippenham one afternoon, and it really wouldn't take no for an answer, I was trying to drive it back onto the river to leave the female alone, and it was trying everything it could to get at her. She'd have run under a car trying to get away if I hadn't driven the male away. The female ended up hiding in some bushes to escape the male.
Persistent little sod.

Yes, it's a mallard cross. We've tried to rescue female mallards before now, it's heart wrenching to see them being raped.

Commuting home along the canal once I saw a dead female mallard floating in the canal. A couple of males were nearby, one of whom was still showing an interest in trying to mate with her. Presumably she had drowned during mating. A gruesome scene.

Only on STW could a cuckoo take the moral high ground.

No, traditionally it's raped, murdered, thrown into the canal.
