Getting a bit sick of beans now. and omelettes.

This is where I got confused on week one. Make scrabbled eggs, boiled aswell as omlettes. I have been eating more salad and vegetables than beans in week two as the beans just did not really work for me.

I have been keeping nice and regular though.

And the day off yesterday was brilliant. I had PIZZA!

Day off today had 3 chocolates, 2 cookies, 1 big cookie, 1 ice cream cone, 1 piece of cheese and bread.

I thought the day off would be more fun. The ice cream was a bit sickly.

Just jump back on it then, I have mucked up occasionally just by not engaging my brain before eating but I have still lost 7 pounds in under 2 weeks.

iDave is a very, very busy fellow.

So, if people e-mail me, I'll see what I can do to meet the requests for information on this.

Haven't managed to give up my few carbs
We're not giving-up Carbs, just eating different sources of carbs.

It seems simple to me. Either you do as the guide suggests and lose weight, or you do something else and see what happens.
No one is holding a gun to my head, I'm choosing to make a change.
Even if that takes a little work.
๐Ÿ˜‰

I've learnt a fair amount about different foods, i'd never cooked with beans or lentils before, overall its been a very positive experience.

My thoughts exactly !, my hat off to you for rolling your sleevs up and getting stuck in. Good stuff ๐Ÿ˜€

Its bean nearly three weeks now. Its definately worked !.

Its been an eye opener for me and I will carry the knowledge with me and I shall continue eating the meals I have learnt to make, along with the compatible items/meals I was already eating before I tried this.
recipe suggestions posted here have also been much appreciated.

As already posted by others, I view this exercise as me learning new stuff to incorporate into my on-going healthier eating habits/choices.

iDave. You could have done nothing, you could have stayed quiet about what you know, but instead you decided to share and to help. Thank you very much.

I have popped on 3lbs....had one extra 'off day' unfortunately this week, but still surprised. As I have been strict for the other 5 days. Maybe I am taking the eat as much as you want of nuts/egss/meat etc too far?

Bugger.

Yeah, I found that for me, the nuts were slowing progress.

I guess that just cos its written down for us, doesn't mean we should stop observing how our individual bodies take to what we're choosing to eat.

Some fine-tunning may be required.

But iDaves' suggestions point us in a good direction. imo.

Go on then spill the beans (no pun intended) How much have you lost?

I have done 7 pounds in probably about 8 days and could have done more if I had concentrated more.

Tails.

I've no scales, but things are trimmer, belts set to their usual position are loosening around the waist now. Its all good.

And the longer it goes on, the easier I find it. I do not miss anything, cos I've not given anything up.

I just hold-off for the Choc, cheese, beer, etc, until Saturdays.
But even then I don't go mad. I don't need much of a quality cheese or Beer to apprecate the flavours, esp if I don't have them every day.

I may purchase some scales soon, but I'm in no hurry.

We can all tell when we've lost weight and its happened for me, and was easy.

Same here, my first day off I didn't really eat much more drinking as I was away so took 3 days off then jumped back on. Still lost alot of weight.

This sat was my first proper day off and I ate a fair bit of sugary food as I felt I should but did not enjoy the sugar low.

I had my first blow-out on Sat (bacon+mushroom sarnie, home-made chicken+ham pie and scotch egg, cheese on toast, home-made pizza, home-made raspberry millefeuille (sp), 3 pints and half a bottle of red.

Had a few extra carbs yesterday too, but I did do a 60 mile MTB ride to justify it.

I reckon my weigh-in might be a tad heavier than Friday's.

Tails.

Sounds like you've cracked it ๐Ÿ˜‰

My plan is to continue as I am now. They'll be new meals to prepare and to try, but truth is, I really don't miss bread everyday, I rarely ate potatoes anyway, same for pasta.

I've used this exercise as an excuse to myself to cut back on the booze, and its all good. Good for weight, good for the wallet.

There are loads of recipes, and the foods are easily sourced, so this is really an exercise in discipline as far as I'm concerned, when eating less bread, pasta, sugar, etc.

Generally, imo, this has been a good thread, thanks Alexxx ๐Ÿ˜‰

Good luck to all who try it, I hope they get the results they're after.

For me it has worked and as far as I'm concerned iDave is right.

Ok. I am going to have a proper go at this again next monday, have a festival on the weekend so going to be impossible to be virtuous, so can people give me tips on where I am going wrong.

For example:

Are people just sticking to lean meats?
If you are snacking how much in a day and of what?
Are you still exercising?
On your off days how 'off' are you going?
Are you watching portion sizes or just eating loads of the approved foods?

There has got to be a reason why I am not doing as well as others dammit! 8)

Others have posted recipes, so if you want to, I guess its Ok.

Jamie.

Just curious, why next Monday ?.

1, Yes.

2, Not really.

3, Oh Yes, its those bikes you see, I love riding them. ๐Ÿ˜‰

4, 3 squares, and a beer or two, maybe a bit of chocolate.
As my day off is a Saturday, I'm quite busy so don't sit around feeding.

5, No portion sizes. just eating loads of the approved foods
Eating loads ??.

Well I am continuing on today. I am at a music festival from Friday so will be possible to adhere to the plan fully, but will use my off day as one of those days.

1. Ah....maybe cut down on the sausages/frankfurters ๐Ÿ˜‰
2. I am eating a lot of almonds/extras. Mainly as I felt so lacking in energy last week. Will try and cut them a bit.
3. As am I, including a bit of running and resistance work....at a reduced pace as mentioned tho.
4. I am probably going too off on my off days I think!
5. Loads as in...well say whole tin of lentils, chicken breast plus veg as an example.

1) yesish. Had a couple of minute steaks, tuna and cod, lots of chicken and venison. And chorizo.
2)Each day is the chorizo and spinach omelette for breakfast at about 10, carrot, celery and capsicum with hummus for lunch and snacks, dinner is meat with lentils or beans and salad (lettuce, beetroot, capsicum normally)
3) Twice a week, 2-3 hours on the bike at night. Nothing too strenuous. That's about it.
4) Saturday gone, I went a bit ott - I couldn't resist weighing myself on Sunday- over 3 pounds heavier than the Thursday weigh in. Nearly all gone after two days 'blockage' cleared itself this morning though.
5) Breakfast and dinner are filling me up, during the day I'm just eating when I really feel hungry.
I think the removal of bread, pasta, potatoes, rice and dairy might be the key, but I'm not willing to experiment too much at this stage with something that is working for me.

I'm coming up for a week and a half now and have mixed feelings about this approach.

While it does feel quite healthy I don't really seem to be losing any weight, if anything I've gained a little bit of fat around the middle. Probably from all the chorizo, other meats and the nuts.

However, I don't think I've managed a whole day when i have stuck to the rules completely. e.g. I've had the odd nutrigrain bar or small jacket potato, or other small but normally considered healthy snack.

But mainly I've been struggling to stomach all the beans. Yes they definitely have their place but for more than one meal per day is hard work, even then its a bit much. Lentils and dhal are great though.

I didn't go crazy on my day off, just a bowl of cereal, sandwiches, and a pizza + beer. Eating omelettes and sausages for breakfast doesn't seem like the best way to lose weight or fat.

Is anyone else having probs and who is getting on well?

Scruff.

Think I read a post by iDave suggesting that some carbs for/during heavier exercise should be fine, just don't go mad.

I'd add that its all about us starting with an outline, a suggestion, then for us to individually work on along that theme, to achieve the results we wish to.

You'll have to figure out how to tweak what you're eating to get where you want to be.

I may take some, a while to sort out what works for them. But I wouldn't have thought it would be wasted time.

Jamie. Sup to you mate, I think from earlier posts that you've got a handle on what its about.
Good luck.

From what I have read the people that are having a hard time even putting on weight appear to be the ones having the "odd" potato or the odd Chinese!!

This is what I eat on an average day monday to friday so far I have been having 2 days off a week and still losing alot of weight.

Breakfast - chorizo omelette or fried egg and bacon (fat cut off) or scrabbled egg and bacon or mixed nuts all with black coffee and water.

Snack at work - mixed nuts - Drinks - black coffee, water, coke zero, pepsi max, diet coke.

Lunch either chicken and peppers all cooked up the night before or chicken salad or bacon salad

Dinner - Caesar salad, stuffed peppers with mixed beans, chicken and vegetables, some lentil type meals, obviously the above chicken can be swapped for other meats.

Steer clear of processed meat like those minted lamb kebab things and other such muck. Other than that follow the plan best you can don't panic and pig out if you find yourself accidentally eating some grapes or cherries.

Your portion sizes should be no bigger than before.

I'm doing fairly well despite not sticking to this rigidly (it's physically impossible to find a conforming food for lunch near where I work and I don't have time to make lunch each day and transport all the pots etc), I went down from 17st to 16st 4 in 2 weeks but seem to have hit a plateau and bounced back up again to 16st 8 this week.

Having a "normal" day is kinda like tempting an alcoholic with a cheeky pint on friday, I can easily eat all the cals I've lost during the week in one day if I let myself. I think htis is part of my plateau problem this week!

Some beans are serpantly better than others, cannelini and butter ones I like, chickpeas OK. You can mash butterbeans up so its kinda like mashed potato. I had a can or two of bear at the weekend (away camping) and fair few diet breaking meals but eff it, it was a weekend away I'd been looking forward to it. Eat lots of flapjack and had some energy stuff in my water whilst riding.

For comparison (if you want it) I'm not on the diet, I ride something like 70-150km per week ,and run maybe another 40-50km per week. I eat:

Breakfast: Porridge or couple of slices of toast, coffee
Lunch: Half a baton (shared with my missus, she has the other half) cheese tuna ham (whatever) diet coke, yoghurt, or rice pudding
Main meal: What ever the family are having. Spag bog, chille, whatever.
I don't snack, and I don't drink. but I do eat puddings and so on, and fruit.

I weigh 12 stone. (have done for ever really...)

Nickc, sounds like you are a lucky chap not in need of a diet ๐Ÿ™‚

I lost 700g last week btw, for anyone who's interested.

However I also put in a blinding base ride on Sunday with 217W for 148bpm. This is the best I've done since my Mayhem solo year.

same as Nickc, BUT weight has changed...(a bit)

porridge for brekkie without fail.
sandwiches for lunch.
endless amounts of fruit (but restrict to one banana a day).
dinner - eat whatever.

run 20kms a week, swim, football and if i can ... cycle a bit.

and cut snacking on junk significantly.

I've only lost 7lbs since starting this regime at the end of last year but physically look and feel a lot fitter.

hhmmm, let me think. a can or two of beer, would that be about 12 Tanglefoots and a 70 shilling, maybe a Speckled Hen or two as well?

6 0r 7 cheeseburgers...cant remember seeing them on the plan...

Lots of flapjack-as in 2 family size trays?

5 packs of Pitta bread....

a jacket spud after 30 oz of rump and sirloin...

Fried bread and fried black pudding for breakfast-never, not me guv...

I think you were slow cos you were full.... ๐Ÿ˜†

Day five of week two and another 3lbs dropped this week. Will be riding tonight then looking forward to binge day on Saturday.

Similar food intake to last week although I've had less red wine but a couple of cheeky post-supper ice creams (snickers and lion bar).

Can't say I'm missing the bread, potatoes and rice which is good. Do have spag though (with tuna/pesto) as post-ride nosh.

All in all, a happy chappy - cheers iDave.

I'm on week 3 and the whole plan has stopped working. Last Sat morning I was 12.13.8 stone, I then had the day off on Monday I was 13.2 stone this week I have barely lost anything and I'm currently at 13.1.4 stone.

Any ideas on whats gone wrong? Considering doing a 2 week stretch as I would like to get to 12 stone.

Tails, don't expect to drop 7lbs a week. Ain't gonna happen. 1-2lbs a week is all you can expect to lose healthily. Give it time since, as explained on here, it's not a crash diet plan, rather an eating change.

Your eating too much and not moving enough.

You think I'm covering best part of 100miles a week on the bike plus treadmill and rowing workouts, in fact i reckon I move more than 90% of forum users. Saying that I'm eating about 100g of nuts a day, almonds, hazlenuts, cashews plus mixed seed.

Loads and loads of fat in nuts.

And have you checked your body fat as opposed to your actual weight? I've only lost maybe a kg lately, but looking at my body it's clear I've lost a fair bit of fat, and my trousers are looser - almost gone in a hole on the belt.

i'm aware of the kcal in nuts, but surly I'm allowed to eat something FFS!!

Maybe I'll take up smoking to combat the nuts ๐Ÿ˜›

Not sure on body fat I don't pay attention to that on my fancy scales, but the lass at work reckons I look thinner.

You are allowed to eat something, but the idea is that when you exercise loads your body tells you you're hungry; but what it needs is carbs. You'll eat nuts, get not many carbs, and your body will still tell you you'r ehungry so you'll eat more.

Eat just what you need to ride, nothing more. Nuts are mostly fat and protein, neither of which you need to fuel riding...

Yes, don't pay attention to the body fat on scales - it's tosh - you look at things like how visible your muscles are, if clothes are getting looser and if people say you look thin. Other people are better at noticing this, as you tend to look at your spare tyre, where as they look at your face.

I eat loads of nuts/seeds cos I think they've got protein in them aswell as other good stuff and I dont eat meat so i need protein from somewhere.

I reckon i eat an average of about 100g of mixed fruit nuts per day, doesnt do me any harm i dont think. they also make you feel really full, I often cant hack anymore food after eating them. Sounds like your getting the miles in anyway, perhaps this diet isnt for you?

How tall are you anyway? 13 stone isnt really that heavy is it?
