Why, after years of being able to eat whatever quantity of cake there was available, as soon as I eat an even tiny bit I feel sleepy? The same after any bread, rice, potatoes, pasta...
Thanks!

Your wife is slowly poisoning you

Every day she's increasing the dose until you finally succumb, she's already sold your bloated remains to medical science, all she needs to do now is deliver you to the med school

so eat up and don't worry too much

You're recovering from insulin resistance?

I considered myself something of a hero in terms of sweet food consumption - I never experienced a 'sugar rush' or found anything 'too sweet'. However yesterday I had a chocolate covered Oreo cookie, something I found deliriously amazing a few weeks ago, and it was yucky and way too sweet. I also had a Caramel Frappuccino which I used to think was the food of the gods, I couldn't finish it.

Recovering? As in I had it and now it's gone? Have to talk to my GP, clearly.

Don't talk to your GP, he won't have a clue unless it's a pathology of some kind.

AFAIK your cells build up a resistance to insulin, which means that sweet stuff would have less of an effect on you. Like booze or other drugs. So if you reduce insulin levels you'll increase sensitivity again and then when you do have sweet stuff you'll really feel it and it'll seem yucky.

I think, anyway. IANASP

I am no expert, but based on experiences of a family member: It may be nothing, but no harm in a blood test - check for diabetes.

Yep, blood test. Could be thyroid?

somebody is spiking your food with sleeping pills ? I would suggest it's a sugar crash but getting the same from even a small amount of pasta and bread etc ? weird. try eating a small amount of iDave beans and see if you instantly fall asleep.
