Nice day today, had the backdoor open while I was decorating. I heard the Mrs shout "Urrrrr what the hell's that?" assuming it was spider or sommat, I went in and this thing was running round the front room, under the telly and units. I assume it's a ferret but dunno, do you get many round towns or do you think it's someones pet?

It didn't want to leave had to chase it out and shut the door but it stayed there for a while and when I went out later it tried to get back in!

Yep that's a ferret. Looks well groomed, probably a pet that took itself walkies.

I was woken up at 4am the other day by really load banging (!) downstairs

One of my kids had been mucking about with the catflap (we don't have a cat so it's always lockd) & it was set to allow cat in but not out

"something" had got in, got scared and smashed it's way out, breaking the plexiglass flap & half pulling the frame off the door. Didn't see it - had gone when I arrived

I was thinking anaconda, or baby rhino but maybe just a ferret after all

You've probably got a neighbour missing a ferret because that one looks well kept Donk.
Scaredypants, there's a good chance your visitor was a badger.
