In amongst way too much Instagram Reels scrolling, I saw adverts for ICL tests to detect blood in urine as an early warning for *stuff*.
So I thought, why not and ordered one, pee'd on it and sure enough it's showing traces of Urine. Clearly I'll "seek medical advice" as it suggests.
But now I'm at that part of feeling a bit stupid calling up the GP and saying "yeah I saw this test on the internet and its showing positive" - positive for gullibility ?
Anyone else used one? Will the GP laugh me out of the surgery? Or, should I be worried / thankful for Instagram?
...it’s showing traces of Urine. ..
I guess peeing on something, you expect it to show traces of urine? or do you mean blood IN the urine?
I'd ask teh practice if you can have your urine sent off to 'the lab' to look for blood... if blood is present, make appt with GP..

I won't edit it to make your post look silly, but yes I mean blood in urine.
Thanks.
But also, as a Dr, do you recognise these tests?
I carry a healthy cynicism for certain tests that are advertised on insta/facebook etc etc...but will always consider their results and find my own..
I had a chap recently who did a fingerprick blood test that showed he was low in XYZ... I said to him I'm not convinced a fingerprick test, you send off in the post (so blood can degrade), and then analysed will be that accurate. So did a venous blood test on him. Tickle me pink, he WAS low in XYZ!! So we both had a good outcome (i got the test I felt was appropriate, and he was taken seriously).
basically, yes..if you told me you did a test from insta that you pee'd on and it showed blood, i'd take it seriously and send the urine to the lab (as testing for blood in urine is a dead simple 'on the spot test'... (it CAN bring up false positives, however...certain foods and meds you excrete can mimic blood and trigger the test..hence why no test is 100%... but i'd still send off your pee for the lab to actually look for blood cells)
