What's the term for that sort of word use?

Tautology, sort of. In fact, it actually means approximately something along the lines of the repeated terms that have appeared several times over in this sentence.
Your example is closer to redundancy, since you can only look visually.

Well seeing as how my 4 and 8 year olds need regularly told to "look with the eyes and not the fingers", I think the answer to what sort of word use is "reasonable".
