My tenants have just been on the phone to say there's water running down the stone steps into the cellar, shear volumne of water in the slightly higher back garden. Can somebody put a call into gods plumber for me?

I'm going to re-watch Kevin Costner in Waterworld and make notes. The apocalypse will not be fiery, it will be wet!

Merry Christmas!

Hmm good point last minute Xmas shoppers on wet roads, a lethal combination. Don't have my car today and have to collect some prototypes from Richmond in a few hours then cycle another 10 to the climbing wall. Hmmm waterproofs or boat?

I think trout is on to something.
We could blow the rain over to Ireland, where it belongs. ๐Ÿ˜€

Like others have said, be careful if driving anywhere of any distance today.

I made the fatal error of driving up the M6 last Friday in torrential rain, to visit family. The spray and standing water was so bad that my car ingested water into the fuse box, shorted out the lights, wipers and heaters. Was a truly unpleasant journey.

Just been down the road to check on the flood defences. Water level still a few feet below the other week, but the flood gates are closed and doing their job...

About 4' of water at the gate.

[img] [/img]

About 18" below the wall top, and 3' below the glass top.

I work for the EA and have been asked to help out with this flood event over Christmas (I don't do flood stuff but the guys who do need help from operational officers). There will be people working 24/7 over the next few days in the incident rooms and outside day and night trying their best to keep the channels clear for the water to flow.

Nice to see those flood defences doing their job above. ๐Ÿ™‚

Take notice of the warnings guys, they really mean it. There is no way I would go anywhere near flood water, knowing what's in it......

Another Environment Agency staff member here, back on again in 30 mins. It's looking like the South West are going to be on warnings all the way to Christmas Day, hopefully a short respite today will see the South clear and we can spend Christmas at home!

Thoughts go out to anyone experiencing flooding, it's awful ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Carlisle - Bristol this evening.

Hopefully is as good as the trip we made up here on Friday evening, roads were clear and the traffic was very light.

Just been down the road to check on the flood defences. Water level still a few feet below the other week, but the flood gates are closed and doing their job...

The water level at Worcester is now higher than the other week I think (I can't find the archived river levels to check though - I'm sure I did find those last time I looked). Water coming your way...

Have you been up on the hills recently though? Supposedly the Malverns stay nice and rideable even in the worst weather - my experience from the last couple of days suggests that's just not so, with tracks which are usually rideable even when it's been wet now turned into quagmires.

Heard the same in the pub tonight. Its over at worcester higher than at any time since the 2007 soaking.

Im going to drop in to Upton again tomorrow for another look.

As for the hills, check out Alex's recent thread. I was up there on foot the other night and it was very wet even on the "all weather" stuff.
Probably still OK on the stone on the ridge, but anything else is grim.

As a shop keeper we need Christmas to carry us through the rest of the year. So for the shops in Braunton to have been robbed of the most important days of the year is a real blow.
My parents live there and the water stopped a 100 feet from their house.
God knows what it will do to their premiums.
I can only sympathise with all those affected and promise to spend well in Southfork when i'm down next year.

Oh its big enough, if it was bigger and everyone could fit on, it wouldn't be an Ark. It would just a ferry. (I think this hints that there will be no drummer jokes in the Third Testament, except maybe one about time signatures)
