There's an absolutely pristine Ford Sierra Cosworth in a garage in Wimborne at the moment. I'd love that car, though I imagine the insurance would be ruinous.

TFM,

I saw that R8 on Oxford Road in Manchester on Tuesday night.. It is VERY shiny. I did just want to put a load of greasy fingerprints on it.

That XR2 is fantastic bur 4.400!
perhaps not..

Infact thinking about it I left an xr2 outside a police station in Brussels about 8 years ago and never went back for it , my mate said it was there about two years before it vanished , how naughty 😉

there's something ultim, ately Pleasing about Old school fords!
used to be an Escort cossie that lived a couple of roads behind me, In mallard green i think it was called, I Love those cars!
my best mate when we were just passed tests and properly learning to drive had an old X plate Xr2, had a janspeed system on it he got cheap, wem thought it was bodged as had a weld at the back around the pipe, but found out it wasnt when a mag did a retro feature and had the same system! was Loud, but so much fun!!
another good mate has a S2 rst, very nice but no S1!!!!

mind you for something completely mad,

mmmmmmmmmmmmmm scooby

I think I persuaded the fun controller last night that we should get an estate instead of her fiesta, which means I can keep the midget without having to get a 2nd car*! Result!

*doesn't save any money, the midgets earmarked to have a complete rebuild with big brakes, big anti-roll bars, short springs and telescopic dampers this winter, folowed by a new engine next winter, 220bhp (either tuned 1.8 vvc k-series (getting suprisingly expensive) or 2.0 zetec/duratech which can be had crated for £800) in a car that'll barely weigh half a ton 🙂

Not with all that stuff attached to it it won't. 🙂

Yes it will, to qualify for club raceing they have to have ballast added upto 625kg IIRC.

Lighter engine (heavier gearbox though), alloy radiator, ditch the spare wheel, ditch the seat adjustment, fiberglass pannels, alloy boot, alloy fuel tank, gaffa tape interior, might fit a roll cage or just keep the roll bar. It's going to rock my socks 🙂

I'd definately go for a Zetec over a K-series.
K-series are very fragile at anything over 180bhp.
My mate used to race an ex Tomcat challenge 220 turbo, engine used to expire every other meeting on average(was nearly 400bhp though)

Why are old cars so much nicer than modern ones 🙁 shame they cost so much. I'd love a mini instead of my Mondeo but mine just hardly goes wrong and when it does its cheap and easy to fix

My first car was a 1275GT Clubman like the one in Seftons post but in metallic purple with a cherry bomb exhaust, happy days 😀

Frontline were doing 1.8 VVC with 220bhp, but the emerald ECU let you switch to 'only' 150bhp/5000rpm for 'normal' use and a 50bhp lean setting for just driving arround at 40+mpg.

In terms of getting lots of power cheeply the ford engines seems the way to go, plenty of 200+hp examples without much more than a free flowing exhaust and injectors the size of hosepipes.

But like I said, thats for next winter, need to get the chassis ready for it first (or sell it and buy a shell).

Like the pics almost makes that Clubman look as good as a Mini!
thisisnotaspoon - been there and done that, spent way way too much and result not as much fun as my mildly tuned, but lowered and stiffened Orange one 😉

🙂

I have owned a 1275GT like that one (in bright yellow) and an XR2 like the one in flip's post (but in gunmetal grey and I swapped the red trim for blue).

Them were the days.

I occasionally look at older cars but the money they go for is mad. I think I would have a 'The Professionals' 3.0S Capri if I got anythign though.

See thats where I'm struggling, it's a hoot at the moment, and droping a 1.4 k-series, uprating the springs/dampers would probably be 90% as good, but cost peanuts.

Loinheart, out of intrest, what engine/gearbox is that? And how much cutting and welding did it need?

I've seen a few people fabircating entire transmission tunnles, and others saying the T9 just drops straight in.

My father wrote one of those off. Replaced it with the 2.8i in that two-tone blue/silver they did.

Replaced that with an ur Quattro. And then another.

He toyed with an RS500 Cosworth, but stayed with the Audi.

Second Quattro replaced with an Audi 100 (he ran out of money). There was something *special* about this thing - it came from Dave Sutton Motorsport, the then preparers of works Audi rally cars. It looked cr*p but went like **** off a stick..!

Good choice Wrighty, right bit of kit.

Hope petrol prices don't go 'too' high.

RB's are proper weapons!

I know a lad who had one, cost him £15 from chesterfield to matlock bath 1 way!!

He sold it to buy a new age STI,had it 2 months, decided he didn't like it so bought his old 320 back!!

I looked at and tested a new age, far more refined with nice bits of electronic gadgetry but something wasn't just right! Love my current preza but just wanted one final fling with a "proper" one before I go old sensible and close to bankrupt. Bring on the miles!!
