Company wide meeting at 3pm. Work in the Geotechnical industry and it is on its ass as no-one is building houses. Quite worried, i have no real back up plan, lots of debt and no savings.
On the plus side i dont have a mortgage or a partner, if that counts as a plus...
Good luck!
good luck + summer is coming so plenty of riding?
Good luck. The Joblesstrackworld club will welcome you with open arms if the worst happens ๐
in your situation, i'd (sh't myself but like to think i'd) take 6 months to go ride somewhere. get a guiding / chalet job in the Alps. Oh yeah, do it.
Really starting to get worried now. Cant see it being good news to be honest, seen a couple of similar sized companies in the industry go bump recently too.
Would love to just bugger of and ride / guide chalet work for a while, however its the monthly repayments on a bike and a car and a couple of credit cards that I cant postpone or pay off in one go that have me worried.
Not too worried about the rent, id already started thinking about living in my campervan.
I'm already pretty worried. I've been looking for contracts now for 2-3 weeks and got no interviews...
I've been looking for 23 months and am now past caring!
did you take out payment protection...? ๐
Look at emmigration to Canada etc? I mean no mortgage or partner so no ties?
Just had the TALK. Two days of consultation and then a decision on who getting cut, whose getting a paycut and how many days a week we'll all be working.
Think im going to hand in notice on my rented house this week as its two months notice and crash at my parents / friends and in my van 'til ive saved enough money to pay off my debts and go to Canada for a while.
Good choice. Canada's a nice place.
But.... It may not happen to you. It _is_ a good idea to have an escape plan though.
If anyone lives in the Thames Valley region the police are about to start recruiting again .... if you interested (and I haven't put anyone off!!) then feel free to drop me an e-mail.
Good luck.
Can you not just sell the car back? I have no clue how these loans with cars work!!!?
Unfortunately the car is now worth less than a quarter of what i paid for it according to dealer calculation thingy and looking on auto trader and i have two and a half years left to pay on it ๐
Also it will be happening to me one way or another the effect are going to be company wide as there are only 30 odd of us in the offices and labs. Looking to likely to be a 4day working week with a 20-25% paycut.
Only been with the company a few years so my redundancy paycheck would be all of 700quid which wont cover two month rent, C.tax, bills or c.card/ hp payments.
Def hoping for a paycut over redundancy...
Downside your car or bike and try to pay off your debts as much as possible. Easier said then done I am afraid.
Move in with your parents or leave in the campervan to cut cost.
Yes, paycut will be the best option.
I wouldn't mind a 20% paycut to go to a 4 day week. One extra day biking ๐
What sort of a Hippy has credit cards and HP payments anyway? ๐
Like the camper-van idea though . . head for the alps ๐
Happy Hippy, dont worry there will be a vacancy for a labour mp soon, no experience necessary, just terminal amnesia.
Start looking for a new job asap or move to China.
Hope it gets better for everyone.
As above, looking for a new job now would be a good idea. You can't always tell though, my company had a very poor Jan and Feb, but has just recorded the best sales month ever! We will also reach our highest yearly turnover. Are your skills transferable to another industry which isn't dependent on housing?
If you've paid off over half of your cars payments and its on HP, not a personal loan then you can just hand it back and walk away. You may need to get some proper advice on this but as far as I know its perfectly legal, doubt you'd get approved for a loan with them in the future though.
Hey Happy-Hippy,
How did things work out.... Did you get the push? Not sure what you do in the geotechnical world but the oil industry (may not fit with hippy outlook - but I guess not too different from concreting over the planet) is still busy and some companies are still looking for people... not sure what you do but you could have transferable skills. Worth a look?
I'm out in the North Atlantic watching films and surfing the net waiting for the drilling to get going... if you don't mind working away there are guys out here doing about 120 days per year and home (riding?) the rest of the time.
All sorts of stuff may suit - mudlogging (move to wellsite geology in the future i.e. day rating on good money), production chemistry, office jobs in data management etc. etc.
