T-mobile are doing this phone for £20 per month with 600 minutes, unlimited texts & unlimited internet access.
How good is it, how reliable is it & what's the real-time battery life like?
I've had mine just over 3 months, no trouble with it at all. Battery lasts a couple of days with about 2 hours a day on interweb,I would guess at about 36 hours from full to flat, depending on amount of use of course.Probably a couple of hours to charge up again.
Two spare batteries and a desktop charger were £13 of ebay, I just leave a spare battery at work, but have never needed it yet.A rubberised hard case and 6 screen protecters were about a fiver I think.
I would certainly have another one.
HTH.
Look at the HTC San Francisco. It's cheaper than the Wildfire, and better.
Its Ok. Screen is responsive and clear. As Graeme said battery life is about 36 hrs. Music player is good quality if you use good phones with it. GPS is good too.
Its slow when it comes to web browsing but that might be the built in web browser but as I don't do much browsing by phone I've not bothered to try any others. The phone is nice and compact especially when compared to other more powerful smart phones. Suits me as I use it mainly as a phone and music player and don't use it for gaming or watching films.
Is there a properly-usable OS-equipped GPS app for this phone?
I seem to recall that onlt the windows phones have the OS maps.
Not a bad phone. It's been likened to a stripped down HTC Desire [slower processor, less RAM, less internal memory, smaller low res screen etc] which is fair comment.
Wildfire will take it's time with any CPU intensive tasks, like Angry Birds. Using all of it's functions will drastically reduce battery time.
I would get another, if I hadn't recently tried out a Desire. Ho Hum.
Dont do it!!!!!!!!
had mine 5 months and really not taken with it, if it has to be an HTC you'd benefit from the better touch screen and power of the desire......it'll cost you £30-35/pm though.
EDIT: Battery sucks too btw, lucky if you get a days use!
Not GPS app as such, but I have a compass type one that will guide you back to your start point. I haven't searched for one as I use a Garmin e-trex on the bike.I.
Is there a properly-usable OS-equipped GPS app for this phone?
Mrs Pickers has one, she has Viewranger on it with proper OS mapping. Looks ok but I've not played with it much
good
my only problem is slightly low res screen (but pinch to zoom works well) and vodafone not releasing new version of android for it
not as fast as desire/iphone4 but good enough for me
cameras a bit poor
and battery lasts about a 2 days with a bit of surfing
overall for the money its great
oh and its smaller than other smartphones so if you dont need a massive screen it fits pocket
:(can't get mine to do picture messages, neither orange or carphone warehouse could sort it?? 🙁
Oooh android 2.2 available this morning cheers Vodafone, new Google maps time 🙂
I got mine for £11 a month on Three 6 months ago,
It's an okay, I have nothing to compare it to really,
I managed to fill up the internal memory with apps and texts which was a bit annoying as you cannot transfer them to the SD card. It's very compatible with Gmail other Google stuff, obviously.
Also, I think only Vodafone are providing the OS update.
Try haggling with your supplier. Back in September, I got a desire 300 min, 3000 text, 500 meg, 24 months, free handset, for twenty quid a month.
What about that OS app that flaperon posted up on the bike forum ages ago?
(just done a search and it came up - resurrected now)
with android 2.2 u can move apps to your sd and it takes up to a 32gb card
not sure about other networks doin the update tho
I'm using Maverick on the Desire - lots of map options including OS.
Just been speaking to the nice chap in t-mobile & he says t-mobile already support 2.2.
This phone seems to suit what i want, not into gaming & the OS thing is - at the moment - the only app i want. I'm assuming i can use it as a regular sat-nav type thing as well with google maps?
how much is maverick & how much are the individual maps?
all this is new to me as i'm still using an old sony ericcson K810i & these new-fangled smartphones are a mystery to me!
