Anybody using one of these as good as they appear ? And how good is the GPS in what ways can it be used ?
Thanks
Mate of mine just got one, loves it, not sure how much of that was the good deal he got
I like the look of these, I cannot stand apple and all the crap and hysteria that surrounds them but previously had an iPhone 3g. Come upgrade time though I bottled it and got a 3gs as it was the safe bet. The spec of the desire looks brilliant though. My concern was also in 18 months when contract is up, I'll get good money for the 3gs where as I doubt the htc would get anywhere near it in that regard.
I got mine for £40 a month + £30 up front on a 12 month contract... I get £50 back from Quidco, so phone is free. 300min talk (not much I know), unlimited text and web on Vodaphone. Seemed an OK deal to me?
So far, I really like the phone, though struggling a little with managing my contacts for some reason 🙄 My first pure touch screen smartphone, such a cool toy to play with!
one arrived yesterday here. no sim yet, meant to come today. mytracks interests me. prob now have to wait till tues for a play.
Love mine, the only let down I have at the mo' is the radio.
No RDS or signal tracking so it's like being back in the 1980's.
Just waiting for someone to write a different app that will make better use of the hardware & add the missing functionality. Otherwise, does more than I need, and the screen is stunning. Pinch zoom etc works well, and the predictive input on the on screen keyboard is genius!
Google navigate is now on as well, and everything works well together.

My next upgrade on my contract I will be chosing the Desire.
Looks ace now touch screen is finally sorted.
Thing is, is everyone getting one? not sure I want to be part of the sheep...
As long as it has good battery, skype, wifi, bluetooth and decent calls. Anything is extra.
mate at work has one. he's the techno-geek of the team, had the same conversation with anyone who'd listen for weeks before it was delivered about what it can do, then took the day off work to take delivery. apparently its a bit good but I don't know enough about it (or smartphones in general) to say why, but I'd take his ownership of one to say its functionally brill.
T-mobile do best deals apparently, too.
Hi,
Had one for a couple of weeks now. Was on Windows Mobile before (for five years, various devices) and Andriod is very good.
The phone itself is excellent, the screen is very clear, the touch side of it works very well(better than WM) and does not really suffer from any lag.
Google Maps navigation is pretty good but it does require a data connection so it could let you down if you are somewhere remote. However, there is apps like Co-Pilot which would cover that.
I also use it with RunGPS on the bike which is an excellent app. The Android version is not as developed as the version I was using on Windows (the heart rate monitor function is not working, but they working on a fix).
Battery life is about on a par with my previous smartphones. Today on a 1 and half hour ride using RunGPS it used about 35% of the battery. Battery life is always an issue using GPS continuously on a phone. I am waiting for double capacity battery for bike use.
The phone has all the usual other stuff, MP3, Twitter, Tasks/Notes Calendar (not as good syncing options as WM with Outlook but good enough), email, web, weather etc.
The camera is by far the best I have used on an HTC phone (the rest were at best crap). However, it is probably still pretty poor compared to Nokia/Samsung in that respect.
Marketplace is stocked pretty well with useful and lots of less useful apps. Google Sky is cool using the inbuilt compass to show you what all the stars on the sky are.
Certainly the best smartphone I have used. Does what it says on the tin pretty much.
Regards
Really nice. I had a Hero which was Android and was my first smartfone apart from Blackberrys. Desire is nicer, slicker, feels better than the Hero. Android just works with this phone.
Perhaps its not better than my son's iphone, but its pretty close to being on a par with it.
