How snowy are the Howgills at the mo? Looks like a reasonable cover from what I can see from my window. Thinking for a hopefully nice snowy walk as opposed to a bike ride. Icy paths?

I've got some Kahtoola spikes but a couple of my mates don't.

They looked like they were getting a good battering when I drove down the M6 late this afternoon. A friend of mine was walking on the Coniston range today and said the tops were sheet ice, scoured by the wind, and scary. He spent a decade living and playing in the Alps, so when he says it's scary, I know to stay low.

Admittedly, there's a fair bit of distance between the two, but the Howgills seemed to have a good chunk of weather over them, when most of the Lakes looked reasonably clear.

Probably a day for fixing those punctured innertubes you hoped you'd never get time to fix ๐Ÿ™‚

Snow line is about 475m but icy paths down to about 375m, below that it's solid ground but not too bad. Unless you're in the wind, then it's freezing.

Cloud is at 600m approx.

Meteorology - done.
