Anyone got any pointers? From a standing start what do I need to do? Lawyers, banks, surveyors? I have no clue. Anyone know of any good guides on the interweb? Thanks
1. Get a mortgage sorted.
2. Speak to a solicitor, a good one will walk you through the process.
3. Find a house you want and then put an offer in.
4. Wait to see if it is accpeted and if it is then you have bought the place.
No need for a surveyer for the mortgage as the vendor takes care of this as part of the home report which will be freely available unless the place has been on the market for over three years now. If you want astructural survey then that will b something that you will have to arrange yourself.
The best websites will depend on where you are buying, but for Glasgow area GSPC, for Edinburgh ESPC and for Aberdeen ASPC will list almost all the properties for sale in that region.
on a similar topic - im about to go see my solicitor today and put an offer in - kinda freaking out as it goes against my normal debt adverse self but its a neccesary evil to get on the property ladder. :/
we looked around for a few months , got a feel for the market and what we needed/wanted/could afford , spoke the bank to see if they agreed with what we can afford.
started looking at houses seriously
and off to see solicitor today - wasnt intending on being at this stage till mid summer but the deposit came together alot quicker than i expected due to being busy at work and a nice house came up.
as above the "insert city here" solicitors property guide is the bible - but dont be scared to approach estate agents with your needs as ive had a couple of phone calls about properties before they go on the aspc and one at least proved to almost be very much a goer - but the house was just too perfect , finished and big !
For buying in Scotland you will need a Scottish solicitor as the system is slightly different. (You don't say if you already live up here). They will explain how the system works. Everything else will be common to buying anywhere else
