Shove in oven or put in slow cooker?

Cherry coke, trust me. Google the nigella recipe, we did it for Christmas last year and it was great!

I'd get the food sorted before getting the party on!

steep overnight in cider

then change for fresh cider and boil

then allow to cool, coat in honey, wrap in tin foil and bake in oven, before peeling off foil for last twenty minutes to brown up the surface

Such a well timed topic. Was just pondering this on a rainy cycle home.

Could you replace the cider with some nice beer ninfan?

As per ninfan, but add a quartered onion, a small handful of black peppercorns % some celery leaves when cooking in the cider.
Remove from the cider & allow to cool. Remove fat, coat in Dijon mustard, layer with orange slices & coat in clear honey & roast in foil for 40 minutes then open foil for another 20-30 minutes

This coke version, does it make it sweet? Prefer the cider one so far. Will White Lightening be ok?

Coke makes it too sweet and I have a sweet tooth. Cider much better IMHO

I found the coke didn't make it sweet. Generally underwhelmed by the kitchen goddess's ham recipe. Imagine it would be good with a strong vintage cider.

I plaster mine in mustard and cloves, sometimes with a bit of Apple juice too then slow cook. Mmmmm

Have a night on the cider, then marinade in your first piss in the morning, for a few hours. This is the purists way.

Boiled, with split peas in the stock to make pease pudding. Served with mustard, pickled onions, beetroot and thick cut white bread with plenty of butter.

I tend to either roast it like pork or simmer to make soup.

I would use the " old fashioned" method . If you have a whole ham then soak it in water over night to remove some of the saltiness . Remove it from the water , place in a pan , cover with cold water , bring to the boil and simmer for 3 hours then leave in the pan to cool . You can take the rind off when it's cold and coat it with honey , cloves , brown sugar or what ever takes your fancy and cook it for 15 to 30 mins in the oven to get a nice caramelised covering .

Nigella's coke (drink) recipe for us, has to be proper fat coca-cola (accept no substitutes) to work properly & I didn't think using cherry coke worked well either.
