It's not easy presenting but if he is being paid loads then he has to get it right.
Also could be a mix up on his ear piece giving him wrong info.
I feel bad for the guy, he's always seemed like a decent chap to me and he's been absolutely crucified over this.

Someone said on the other thread, it's more the producer/execs fault than his TBH - no way they should have put him in there when he clearly doesn't have the experience.
