Mk111 diesel eccy on a c, ace on fuel
Mk 1v petrol eccy on a d, twin choke went like stink, wrote it off
P plate diesel clio, simply the hottest car inside I've ever owned
X plate 206 1.4 petrol god it was dull
52 plate wrx first taste of proper speed.
55 plate wrx300 fully loaded 0-60 in under 5, I miss her so badly
And now the sensible mans car Mazda 6 diesel estate (sigh) sport model tho thankfully.....
So 7 is the answer.

3 in 26 years of driving. Like Zippy, I was a bike man and only got a car when the kids came along. After riding bikes, all cars (except race/rally and stupidly expensive ones) are boring to drive.

1. Peugeot 309 (died)
2. Vauxhall Corsa (bought for her to learn to drive in - traded in for a Meriva only last week - again for her).
3. Passat Diesel Estate (perfect bike transport - still going strong).

I only passed my test last year, but I've owned 3 already, two before I could drive!

Mini Cooper - won it in a raffle when I was drunk, sold it two days later

Ford Escort - bought it from a friend when I was drunk, certain I could make a profit. Sold it two days later for the same price I bought it for...to a man who was arrested the next day for armed robbery.

Mercedes C Class estate - bought it last year, the day after finally passing my test. Was unable to drive it home that day due to being too hungover after a wedding (there's definitely a theme here!).

🙂

In terms of "sensible daily drivers", it’s 5:
1986 VW Polo Ranger
1991 VW Golf Driver
1999 Seat Ibiza GTI Cupra Sport
2005 Renault Clio 182 Cup
2009 Honda Civic CDTi

In addition to the above, I'd also like to mention a small supporting cast which were all fun in their own little way, but I was glad I never had to rely on any of them as regular everyday transport:
1983 VW Golf GTI
1989 VW Scirocco Scala
1976 Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior
1988 Peugeot 205 GTI (1.6 flavour)

In 22 years it's 10 cars and I don't want to think about the depreciation on some of them, although oddly it's not necessarily most on the ones you might think.

Austin Allegro - awful thing
VW Polo 1.0l - great little car I ran for a number of years
Fiat Punto x 2 - silly cheap lease deal through a discount from my dad
VW Golf GTi MkIV - company car and was used for everything, loads of miles put on to it
Porsche 911 993 - great toy
Subaru Impreza - soulless and tinny, only kept it 11 months
BMW M5 (E39) - best car I've ever owned, unbelievably capable at so many things
BMW 530d (E61) - practical but disappointing after the M5
BMW 335d (E91) - not as capacious but entertainingly quick.

Since 1987...some personal, some company

Chevette (rusted to nowt)
Capri (just the 1.6l one, but German built, so decent electrics and paintwork EDIT: and it was given to me, so I didn't choose it!)
Cavalier (first decent car, very quiet even by modern standards)
Saab 900 (loved it)
Mitsubishi Galant 2.5l V6 estate (brilliant car)
Saab 93
Saab 95 estate (favourite car)
Hyundai Santa Fe

1995 Proton Persona 1.6 XLi
1993 Peugeot 306 1.9 XLD
1998 Ford Mondeo 1.8TD LX
1994 Toyota Corrolla 2.0
2003 Hyundai Trajet 2.0 GLX
2004 Ford Transit T300
.
Proton was an excellent first car. 1.6 and didn't weigh anything so surprisingly quick. Lasted 8 months and 12,000miles but not bad for £200.
Shouldn't have bought the Peugeot, long story.
Mondeo was excellent, had it 4yrs and took it from 91k to 140k
Only had the Toyota a couple of months, was given to me but was too small
Hyundai OK, but thirsty and parts expensive
Transit. Should have had a van years ago.
.
That's in 9yrs. Total purchase price of first 4, which is 6-7yrs and over 80k miles was £1,450

A reg Fiesta. Awful awful awful thing.

F reg Panda 4x4. Less refined than a Trabant - but brilliant fun in 4wd.

Rover Metro. Surprisingly nice.

Pug 106 diesel. Horribly underpowered uphill, but handled surprisingly well.

Rover 400 2.0 Turbo Diesel. Fast for a diesel, brilliant MPG, and the most reliable car I have ever owned. Ran and ran and ran and only ever needed brake pads and tyres. 160K on clock and still running perfectly when an oaf in a Focus pulled pulled on me and ripped the engine bay out.

MGZS. Absolutely fantastic car to drive. Handled like it was glued to the road, and huge fun. Sadly the engine was the Rover K series - therefore made of cheese - and terminally disintegrated in February.

BMW 3 Series. Nice. Very nice. Not as much fun as the MG though.

Plus 1979 MGBGT - restoration project. Had to sell due to lack of finances meant that it was just rusting away on the drive. Gutted.

Drivin for 10 years now :/

Learned and had a 1.8d fiesta - no gizmos . Did 50mpg and none of the doors locked + could get in boot with a spoon . Became a pump in a field - bodywork failed at 200k

Replaced with a 1.6 escort on an m plate bought at 40k and scrapped at 80 with hgf

Replaced with my parents owned since new hyundai lantra 1.6si on a w place - was a grad present. Lasted 3 weeks before it lunched its ecu

Bought a peugeot partner van on a 56 plAte and have been using it as main car since

The mrs has had a mazda 323- rusted to death , a mk4 golf - hgf after waterpunp impellor failed) and is now on a 2.2 td frontera - the most surprising car ive driven if im honest. Expected to hate it but dont.

Got a pair or project land rovers in bits on the drive as well an 86 90 and an 1990 disco engine donor rot box

One or two... in order ( I think)

[*]Peugeot 106 1.1 (tinny but fun)
Astra GTE (felt very fast at the time, digital speedo was ace, seats comfiest ever, l0ved that car)
Golf VR6 (still miss this one, most fun and best looking car I've ever had (was lowered).
VW Polo (1985 B reg) almost as much fun as the VR6 at much much lower speeds. Swapped it for a bed.
Mini Cooper (new BMW version, quite dissapointing after the noelty of a new car wore off)
VW Golf Mk2 1.3 (had two of these, one after the other. £500 each. Slow but comfy and not bad to drive)
Smart FourTwo (bought for a long commute, sometimes fun but harsh ride and terrible gearbox put the mockers on it)
Seat Toledo Tdi (Huge boot and economical. Failed MOT massively so sold for scrap).
Corsa 1.0 (wifes car mainly, was OK but head gasket went so sold on ebay for spares/repair).
Peugeot 106 diesel (incredible economy, incredibly uncomfortale on a long run. My first 106 must was almost new, this was old and knackered)
Golf Mk2 GTI (loved that car, wish I still had it)
Seat Cordoba (Ibiza Estate, diesel, commuting workhorse, did huge mileage and was..... OK).
VW Type 2 Camper (ace in so many ways, terrible in so many others)
VW Mk1 Golf Cabrio (lots of fun and lots of bills)
Honda Civic (boring but practical, no alarms and no surprises there)

Think that's the lot, lots of good memories there and lots of visits to the garage, hate to think how much money went on that lot!

Of course there was the bit between passing my test and being able to afford my own car (several years in fact)

Cars that my parents were [s]generous[/s] insane enough to give me the free use of:

Ford Escort
Rover 214
Rover 400
Rover 800
Jaguar XJ8

Silly, silly people.

Probably should have checked that the car actually worked before giving it to me, then... 😉

It had an annoying habit of alerting me that there was moisture in the diesel tank. It was a petrol car.

1980ish Triumph Acclaim - beige
1992 mk3 Golf
1997 Passat 1.8t estate
2002 Ford Focus mk1
1990 Honda Civic
1999 306gti6
2005 golf tdi
1998 406 v6 estate
2004 mondeo estate tdci

Of those I have had the Mondeo longest (5.5years) and most miles (85000 in my ownership, 130000 in total).

306gti was the most fun and the 406 had a certain stealth appeal and luxury for a £1300 car!!!

In 13 years, I have only owned two cars; that's a bit odd given how interested in cars I am.

But anyhow...

- 1994 Ford Fiesta Si 1.4 in Mallard Green, bought in 2000. Slow, but handled like a roller skate.
- 2003 Ibiza 1.9 TDi Sport 130, bought in Sept 2006. Plenty quick (but should have got the Cupra), economical, very reliable. Perfect car for me really, but I will replace it with an estate I think when the time comes.

Every time I see something like this online I have an urge to go and buy something completely impractical and stupid like a Mazda RX-7 or a 740i...

Would be tempted if I had the cash to buy and, more importantly, run it. Great car, always fancied a Corrado VR6 too but the Golf was awesome. Happy days!
