How long is a piece of string I guess...
I presume the main determinants are mileage, type of surface and runner weight. My shoes are showing a fair bit of wear after nearly 400 miles of 80% tarmac pounding under my 85kg frame - does that sound like a reasonable lifespan or should I try and get a few months more out of them?
it depends on how good the cushioning is in the sole and if your footstrike is wonky. If in doubt its best to change them as you can start with little niggles that build up over time with incorrect trainers
I've got over 600 miles out of current pair and they still look reasonable to me. I usually replace them when they wear through to the foam.
Rule of thumb is about 500 miles, but it depends, it's about right for me. Road shoes go in the midsole for me - the uppers are normally ok but the cushioning goes dead. Trail and fell shoes I use till they fall apart, which isn't always as long as you'd think 🙂
why not buy another pair now (you'll be due some soonish anyway)? and run them in, your feet will then tell you which they prefer.
When I used to run, 500 miles was always the guideline that the magazines/manufacturers bleated on about...
Well if you'd stop mincing around with that tarmac nonsense, it'd be when they disintegrate!
depends, i often find the tread gets worn by around 500 even if the rest of the trainer is still ok. 268 on my solomons and are almost like new when clean that is..
I'm told mileage only affects heel strikers in this respect.
I just keep them till the soles go through
500-600 miles sounds about right for road shoes, its about what I get from mine anyway, and trail shoes until they fall apart or run away from lack of washing...
About 300-400 miles for me, whilst I'm light I run like a fairy elephant so I go through my shoes quicker than most.
