Are you wanting to make a .jpg on the iPad or copy an existing image TO your iPad?

hold your finger on the image until you get the option to copy or save.

email it or install Dropbox and share it.

Put the image in a folder and in iTunes sync the folder with your iPad.

I use dropbox to swap stuff between computers, phones and whatnot.
