Moving our kitchen between rooms and thinking that rather that getting gas pipe moved it might be a lot easier/cheaper just to get the supply for an electric hob in there when they do the oven.

So, 'money no object' - are there any electric hobs that have the same sort of control + performance that gas ones give?

or just bite the bullet and get a new run of gas put in?

just think of the cost of the electric hob + the cost of the gas hob and pipe moving

fwiw i have an induction hob and i hate it - gas is far superior and will be reinstated when i do the kitchen - even though i have to run it off bottles as we are in the sticks !

Induction Hob is where its at. You need certain pans but they are bloody good, my mate has one and it boils a pan of water in about 1.5 mins. Easier to clean and look nicer than gas.

"just seen post above...typical"

donks i dont disagree they are quick as owt like you say

but gas just provides better control imo - ive always cooked with gas in the past so maybe/probably its user error but i find even the induction hobs dont change temperature instantly like gas does - keep burning shit on this hob.

My induction is great too, would never want to go back to gas, ok slight over exaggeration but you get my meaning. So fast and easy to control and easy to clean without taking it to bits.

However! don't expect it to be much cheaper if any. The cost of a decent size (most need 6mm or 10mm2) supply cable and the additional cost of the hobs is likely to wipe out any gas pipe moving costs.

Have cooked on everything and would always have gas in my own kitchen. Just prefer the control and versatility.

had one it was dire and cleaning it was an absolute nightmare - would never ever go back to electric

if anything spilt it welded to the glass top and you were for ever scrapping the thing with a stanley knife type blade to just have it a bit dirty rather than actually clean
Hated it

maybe mines is a cheapo one - i inherited it with a terrible( as in taste wise) kitchen.

mines a pain in the arse to clean as well compared to my old gas hobs which were wipe clean metal surfaces and then clean the burners once every few months.

The glass on my current hob keeps getting rings of dirt burnt onto it.what junkyard did be there saying !

My sister has got a NEFF induction hob and having used it myself I think it's class. The temp changes are instant, it still looks like new, is easy to clean and looks really sleek.

Had an electric hob in my last apartment and it took ages to heat up, and then ages to cool down - little by way of control and was rather dangerous too. (Quite a few tea towels with big brown burn marks)

Moved into an apartment with gas and it'll be gas all the time for me now.

I have no experience of using induction hobs but sound like a good alternative.

have had leccy or induction hobs in the previous five kitchens i've had the displeasure of using.

i (impulsively) bought a gas hob a few weeks back as i'm fed up of having to touch omni-present "buttons" (they do nothing when you put your finger on them and then beep like made if there is a bit of paper or a random carrot with 2" of them), trying to guesstimate how hot the hob is and no being able to leave a pan on the hob after i've turned it off (that probably pisses me off the most, especially in our old place where the kitchen was pretty tight).

it will mean i have to buy a couple of gas bottles, but for that little bit of effort it's worth it, IMO.

In Winter I cook on the wood burner which requires much messing with air flow and splitting logs to get the right heat. Control then means moving the pan to the edge or lifting it off. Compared with that most hobs are a delight, especially an induction ones. IMO:

Induction electric
Gas
Radiant electric
Wood burner
Hot plate electric

We had mains gas in the old house. Mrs North bought herself a super duper Britannia range - 6 hobs, two electric ovens. We had to sell it to seal the sale of our house. 🙁

Where we are now is outside the mains gas range, so we heat with bottled gas (cost is mega) and a wood stove. We cook on an electric hob. Not sure if it's induction (can't be - doesn't boil like described above), but it is glass. It isn't a patch on gas, TBH, and when we come to redo the kitchen in a few years, it'll be a toss up between the best electric we can find at the time and having more LPG gas bottles outside so we can have gas.

I'd move the gas pipe.
