Sounds like the opening of a bad joke! Which it kind of is...
I was with BT for my landline but they couldn't get an engineer round to fix it so I moved it to 02, whose customer service is usually pretty good.
I told the sales person at the time that the line was broken, he was fine with that, said it would be no problem.
I rang a customer services person on Wednesday to get an engineer booked who said weekend appointments can be difficult but best way is to call at the end of the week and try and find a cancellation. I called this morning to be told they do sometime do weekend appointments but they're rare as hen's teeth.
I pointed out their sales guy didn't tell me this and I've asked for a manager to call me to try and get this sorted.
Anyone been able to get a weekend engineer and how did you do it?
Money? Take a day off in the week?
Book in advance rather than last minute?
Salesman lies to seal the sell shocker 😀
Sorry, no idea, but you have my sympathies.
Greedy punter takes eyes off the ball shocker. 😉
Did he lie though, he said it shouldn't be a problem to fix the line. Maybe it wasn't explained to him that it had to be on the customers terms.
weekend appointments are more common now, as engineers contracts have been changed so that most now have to work a certain number of saturdays per year.. sunday working is still voluntary.
whats wrong with your line? do you NEED an engineer to visit?
Unless the line is covered by prompt or total care, you can't request a saturday appointment, as they're not offered. You may get a visit on a sat on your current care level, but theres no guarantee that they will be available.
Moving your line to another provider is not going to fix the line magically, as its more of an admin process than a physical process. You should have pursued BT to get them to fix it, rather than just move providers.
Try getting an evening appointment. I don't know if they exist but working hours have been extended into the evening so you may get lucky. Alternatively, you could get a neighbour/relation to meet the engineer/stay on site whilst they are there.

Doesn't O2 use BT anyway?
Yeah, O2 use BT (as I understand it O2 basically rent the lines from BT). Just had an O2 home phone package installed, and it was a BT guy that came round to check the line in my house.
