Most youngsters haven't been aware of anything but Tory rule and governmental ineptitude.
Mind you I'm 53 and can only just remember governments that actually governd.
While I don't think the tories will make much headway with younger voters, actually offering policies is a better way than offering nothing more than a patronising message of "voting rocks" etc
Strangely, they don’t seem to feel the Tories offer them much, however the lack of a credible opposition is causing some problems with who you vote for.
That's my issue as well.
MSP has pretty much nailed it though, this:
This pressure on young people to vote for one of the shitty options they are offered is perhaps the wrong lesson, that isn’t teaching them to engage politically, but instead teaching them to be a victim of a societal scale con trick.
Ties in neatly with this:
First past the post requires voting for the least crap party. Candidates don’t matter, parties that won’t get an MP don’t matter. Vote tactically to stop whatever you don’t like.
Which is a load of horse shit. If it was true then no new party would ever gain traction which, for those that still need it pointing out, it isn't. See SNP.
If more people stopped falling for this nonsense then parties would start having to actually act accountably and offer more than platitudes.
I’d like to know how to get the rancid bigoted pensioners to stop voting. That would have saved a lot of grief over the last decade and more.
Large numbers of them voted for the very government that was least capable of preventing covid from killing them.
</black humour>
in 13 years of tory rule the quality of biscuits has plummeted.
I was brought up in a very left wing household where Labour were the best thing since sliced bread and the conservatives evil
Turns out IMO that politics isn’t that black and white.
Let them make their own judgements, advise them on who you are voting for and why, have a discussion if they want to and then move on
Idealistic politics isa great thing but I’m not sure it exists anymore or ever did
Compulsory voting. End.
How would you enforce this?
vote for what they believe in, growth , stability and a good standard of living..
just yesterday i was looking at the odds on the next election.
labour 1/6 and cons 5/1, easy money for the gambler.
trump won his election with those odds and it was 5/1 on Brexit at 5pm on the day of election..

labour 1/6 and cons 5/1,
A complacent opposition or one with a false sense of security, is a weak opposition?
(by opposition I mean voters in opposition as well as the political party)
So what do we need to do to get them ready in time?
Very odd question. What do you mean by ready? All it needs is to get them registered on the electoral roll. Job done. After that it's got bugger all to do with you.

Let them die. Ironically the tories seem to be doing just that with their destruction of the NHS. You'd think they would want to keep all these old duffers alive for as long as possible. 🤷♂️
HR always work for the company. Any pretence otherwise is just part of the charade to help the company extract the most from you and minimise its risk. TJ would tell them to join a Union. I’m not a huge fan of Unions but if they are in a sector where you can’t just switch company that’s not bad advice.
It swings both ways though, my OH works in HR and you glossed over all the other 'good' stuff they do / should do both quietly in the background as well as the more visible stuff. The flipside of "minimize it's risk" as you put it is making sure employees rights aren't violated (and the company reputation is protected, etc, etc).
There's more to HR than just the person taking notes when you mess up and get invited to a meeting with no biscuits.
All polling cards to have a “none” option
It's still a secret ballot, you just have to either turn up and not vote or mail in your postal vote. But there's no way of knowing who didn't vote/spoilt their ballot.

I was thinking that many young people move around a lot, may be away at university etc. Does everyone know that they should be on an electoral roll and when they should do it? Possibly more conversation about what they need to do and what the timelines are for getting ready. It only comes around once every four or five years a bit of a helping hand for a few million people.
The young have been neglected by politicians and are at a huge disadvantage in many parts of life, in no small part thanks to Brexit and second home ownership. I want them to engage in a better future for them.

Fair enough. Many of the replies seem to think it's about making them vote the 'right' way. 🙄
TBH I don't blame young people for not voting. I reckon they're far more aware that their vote counts for very little than many of their supposed elders.
