If the op does bring bike I'm around from 1 ish most afternoons next week if you want a slower guide than Kryton.
I do have it within myself to slow down 😀 Its possible to make this work for three of us!
Hmmm, I think we need an epping forest arranged ride out, even if the OP isn't around! There's a fair few folks around - I'd arrange it but don't know my way around at all!
Happy to guide! I can even put Bacon rolls in the middle.
I'd arrange it but don't know my way around at all!
I'm pretty good from A503 to High Beech/Loughton area singletrack wise..It has taken some years though...
I can get out early for a special play - 11.30/noon....onwards..... 😀
let's know - see if the op fancies it...
Its possible to make this work for [s]three of us![/s]all
Wednesday???
I'm also in the West Midlands.
Just looked out the window. Saw a cloud.
Gutted.
Wednesday???
Can't do Tuesday, or Wednesday really.
Thursday's best...?
Careful slagging off the West Midlands - it's not all bad:
When this was first posted i was driving along the almost deserted coast road an the way home in bright sunshine and about 30 degree heat. Then went out on the road bike for an hour or two (headed inland). It was nice.
I'm flexible...sorry to the op for thread hijack btw...:-)
Another day, another drug rehab clinic.
Been sat on my arse for an hour waiting for a room to become free so I can work in there.
Waiting outside Wembley with the kids for England vs Portugal.
Was the waiting more interesting than the match?
I'm also in the West Midlands, to be more precise I'm in the West Midlands Signalling Centre, which is like a big nuclear bunker with no windows on the operating floor.. There is a nice painting of the Ironbridge though 😆
Ludlow in the West Midlands? Are any of those pictures in the West Midlands, Molgrips?
Bridgnorth is in Shropshire too
I'm in a breezeblock office doing boring stuff on a sunny day, which does suck. OTOH I'm looking out the window at a nice bit of woodland with a humungous giant redwood in it, and there's squirrels and that, so that's pretty good.
(disclaimer; it's a big tree, but it's a pretty small giant redwood. But it's a giant among lesser men)

Me too. The rest of the factory have gone home but I'm on lates so it's just me here. I may take the forklift out and do some unnecessary moving of pallets just to get outside.
It's either that or stare at the air con fan outside my window going around for the next few hours. Oh, I could do some work, I suppose. But it's Friday.
I'm at terminal 5 at Heathrow looking at leaden skies while waiting for my dinner to show up.
I left Dundee in sunshine with clear blue skies and dish trails.
We might need a splinter thread to set up a ride in Epping
I'm going to be a problem as I can only do an evening ride mid week. I work in Central London during normal working hours (and have young kids so prefer to avoid weekend days)
Most of my riding is in the evening in fact (unless I'm commuting)
Last time I went to Epping I just ended up riding fireroad as it was so wet and muddy!
Ludlow in the West Midlands? Are any of those pictures in the West Midlands, Molgrips?
All three pictures are Shropshire - top one's Clun castle.
Just been out for a walk around the sunken gardens and the loch, was going to stop in our pub for a quick beverage but I got sidetracked by a load of ridiculously adorable cygnets.
Having said that - I just learned that there is a metropolitan county called West Midlands too. So I am both wrong and right at the same time.
Your map looks like the European Parliament constituencies, which are so large as to be meaningless. Unless you think both Leek and Ross-on-Wye are in the West Midlands?
Ross on Wye is, yes. Where else would Herefordshire and Shropshire be if not West Midlands? They get Midlands Today on the telly.
Ross-on-Wye is in Herefordshire and Leek is in Staffordshire, and I doubt very much that people from either of those places would self-identify as being from the "West Midlands". If you wish to describe both as "West Midlands" on the basis of EU constituencies, then I assume you think Gibraltar is in the South West?
Ok well never mind the image then. But as someone who grew up in Herefordshire it was always West Midlands.
Where would you put Herefordshire and Shropshire?
Where would you put Herefordshire and Shropshire?
They're both counties - I think most people wouldn't feel the need to subsume them into a bigger region. I also think that when most people talk about "west midlands", they're referring to Birmingham and the surrounding area.
Yes, and that's something that always pissed me off. West Midlands is more than just Birmingham and surrounding area, but everyone ignores the rest of it. Shropshire and Herefordshire might as well not exist. You know how Northerners get pissed off that London gets all the attention? That.
Places have to be in a region, by definition. They can't be nowhere.
In the sea, off the east coast of shetland, bad weather means not going anywhere till monday!
Clun and Hereford = Welsh borders/Welsh Marches.
Ludlow = Welsh Marches
Bridgenorth = Severn Valley.
Places have to be in a region, by definition. They can't be nowhere.
We need to define regions for political purposes, but I see no other great reason why a county has to be defined as region x.
Lerwick and Lockerbie are both in the same EU constituency... just 400 miles apart.
Looking over Eden Project in the sun. Duran Duran sound check below is a bit annoying and distracting me from my work here on STW forum. On the bright side Alex Jones from the One Show is on site apparently for the One Show from here this evening.
Spent this arvo on a shitty 1970's railway station cleaning the outside phone and other telecoms kit to find out that the station is being bulldozed next week!
Bayonne in the Basque country and Nîmes are both in South West France as far as EU constituencies are concerned. Nîmes is in South East France.
Anyhow, the West Midlands is that dreary industrial wasteland in the middle and Clungunford, Clunbury, Clunton and Clun are the quietest places under the sun, and I won't hear of them being sullied with "West Midlands".
15.20 Waterloo to Exeter St Davids bit cramped and crappy tbh
I'm in London
That's a city and a county, and the centre of the UK, and the centre of the world. It's also got it's own language
It's only peasants and heathens in the common land in the outer outer outer suburbs, using up my taxes and funding
Humph 😆
It's also got it's own language
As well as its own rules of grammar, apparently. 😉
Working from home so primarily surrounded by today's used mugs, plates, glasses etc. I know I'll get an earful when SWMBO returns but I'd rather work in my own detritus and spend any available free time outside than tidy up after myself now!
Welsh Marches
Hah.. most people haven't heard of it.
If the country is to be divided nominally into broad areas such as North, South, West and Midlands, then everwhere's got to be in one of those, hasn't it? Bit pointless exempting a place that's very clearly geographically in the west of the middle section, just because you want to use the broad term for a more specific area. Daftness.
Almost as daft as the direction this thread's taken.
Just been told that tonights shift has been cancelled, so I'm packing up now just in time to hit the M25 and M1 for rush hour.
So for the next 6 hours, I'll be sat going slowly in my truck
I WIN MY OWN THREAD!
Well that was awful!
Finally landed at about 2am ish...should have been at 1840.
Annoyance levels were high all round, and people were stealing water for kids/themselves as the rep was dilly dallying about!
Got home and to bed at 0330, baby woke at 0550....
Arrrgggggg!!!
Oh well, off fur a ride in a bit!
DrP
Shropshire is in the West Midlands region of England, as is Leek, as is Warwick, as is Stoke on Trent. The County of West Midlands is also in the region of West Midlands. Bit weird that anyone would pedantically suggest otherwise.
