Does anyone know any decent hotels in/around the city centre?
Any must-see attractions or info/advice for someone on their first visit to the place?

Cheers

Budget? Reason for visit?

It's a tough one, as there's so much variety!

I've stayed in this place a couple of times.

Great location, just a couple of mins walk from everything in the centre.

This is a good guide.

Budget - Erm, what do hotels cost there? Mid range kind of stuff, nothing OTT but not some flea-infested dive in the sticks.
Reason to visit - tourist. We've never been, it seems like a nice city.

If you want cheap the uni do twin rooms for about £15 10mins walk from the castle an 5 mins from the tram that takes you to the new town. I stayed their last week only down side is the share facilitys.

Basic but clean.

Love Prague, its peak season though and sadly may be spoiled a little with yobbo stag parties - try Hotel Europe for Art deco shabby chic ( and i do mean shabby sadly) but an amazing hotel, the restaurant and coffee shop in the hotel are not as neglected though and should certainly be visited, as should the cafe at Obeci Dum/powder tower.
Avoid the tourist trap restauraunts cross the William bridge drop down to the left and see if the Peacock restauraunt is open

I was the only girl in the underground pool, all the men were stunning, but I dont think they were interested in me.

The IBIS used to allow you to cancel without charge upto 24 hours before. Might be worth looking into if you need to book something but can then keep an eye open for a bargain.

Had a great time there when I went. Went mid week and when waiting to come back on Friday the stream of hen and stage parties off the British planes was amusing.

I have stayed in the Ibis too which is clean even though the bedrooms look a bit prefab (the bathroom is a plastic unit in the corner). The breakfast buffet was top notch though. It's reasonable by western European standards but expensive by Czech standards but then I have also stayed in accommodation that was reasonable by Czech standards and it was like the cold war re-visited.

We stayed at the intercontinental for 5 nights, that was nice as usual.
Plenty to see and do including plenty of walking. plenty of nicer restaurants up near the castle in the old town, plenty of cheap ones in the new part. I have a bit of a rule though that i won;t eat anywhere that has to take a photo of the meal your about to receive...so that ruled out most in the new part of town.

The art gallery set of 6 or 7 floors is brilliant for a morning out and wander through the park. Takes you away from the main tourist drag too. Made us smile when the sign on the door of the local bank away from the tourist drag said, no dogs, no motorbike helmets and no guns!

Really top quality city, not cheap at all these days but best around christmas for the markets, but we love it.

Is it prague specifically you want to go to? Brno is just as nice of not nicer and is still really cheap.

The Andels Hotel we stayed at was great. Some good bargains if you look around.
