What's the general concensus on making, for example, a vodka and tonic at home. Do you measure out the vodka or do it by eye? I use a shot glass, some people use x number of caps full, some just pour.

to the top of the first ice cube.

Works best in a pint glass 😉

just pour! if you want to relax, bothering about specific proportions ain't gonna help.

Cripes, and I thought I liked a strong G+T.

What's a measure? Surely it's all by eye??

I use the wonky several finger and eye method

This enabled myself and a lady friend to dispose of 2/3rd of a bottle of Jura on Tuesday

I tried a while ago - doing a measure 'by eye' and then seeing how much that really was.

More like a triple.

Ho hum......

Tall glass, fill 2/3 with ice cubes, gin to halfway, top up with tonic, add lime/lemon to taste.

One shot = 1 second of pouring
double = 2 seconds of pouring

Generally use a measure.

But I like a cocktail so proportions are important.

G&T is 4:1 as a long drink - by the half pint

I guess.

About an hour ago I guessed while pouring some Dalwhinnie to help enjoy last Sundays Man Lab with my 7 year old

I guessed wrong as it was touch and go who would fall asleep first.....

My dads measurement of whisky was two fingers after an easy day and four fingers if it had been stressfull. 😀

One bottle of single malt. One shot glass. Take the first and fill the second to the top. Repeat.

Just pour without constraint.

I use a jigger. Very handy. And cheap too.

Once I made a G&V&T:
1 pint glass "borrowed" from the pub
half a pint of gin
half a pint of vodka
a splash of tonic
no ice as it was cold
No recollection of the follow-up.

I don't drink anymore, but I find Mrs MFL "responds" better after a few decent home measures of vodka, so it's about an inch in the bottom of a half pint glass, ice, the coke to top up.
