I need a hand. I'm a bridesmaid at a wedding in August so I need to organise the hen do. I spoke to the future bride today and her husband to be is going to see a stage of The Tour de France then canoeing in the Ardeche. Now we also think this would be awesome but for obvious reasons can't go.

We want to do something active and fun and probably in the UK (although open to suggestions). Canoeing, white water rafting ... anything like that (I'd be up for MTBing but the others won't).

Have you been somewhere you can recommend where we can do this?
Cheers in advance.

Not that I'm biased or anything but these girls had fun on their hen night in Glasgow on my bike

The Wye is lovely in August.

Here's my usual trip (Not a Hen, obviously, but could be adapted!)-
Friday night, arrive in Monmouth, stay in pub/B&B, drink too much. Make sure you have big picnic and plenty of booze for the morrow....
Saturday (Early!) go to http://www.monmouthcanoe.com/ to be kitted out.
Saturday (A bit later) - Get driven up the road to Ross by the nice folks at MCH
Saturday (rest) paddle downstream through lovely country, stopping at the "beaches" for picnic and booze before arriving at the http://www.saracensheadinn.co.uk/ for a skinful of ale and some superb food and great company.
Sunday morning (Hangover, fry up) complete the canoe back to Monmouth.

It's a great weekend, and I've seen a couple of Hens in the Saracens before.

CFH yup that sounds like the kind of thing with maybe another fun activity thrown in on the Sunday. I shall have a look at that. KEep the ideas rolling!

There's a really good 4x4 centre not too far away as well, White Cliffs I think it was called. They do a really good multi-vehicle play day.

I was planning on organising days out for hen parties.

I'd make them walk for miles using map and compass to locate check points, at these points would be girlie treats as a reward...not seen anything like it elsewhere and unsure whether it would be a good idea.

If your willing to go to devon, how about getting durty like this and do a commando challenge...

Went white water rafting at the National Water Sports centre in Nottingham last year for my friend's hen do.

It was much better than I expected (I've been white water rafting on proper rivers so thought it might be a bit of a let down), really good fun and reasonably good value for money, and it doesn't really matter if there's differing levels of fitness in the group

Was going to suggest the Wye / Forest of Dean area before CFH got in.

Also there is one of those tree adventure places which you might enjoy: http://www.goape.co.uk/days-out-in/gloucestershire/forest-of-dean/the-course

Then there's a number of cycling opportunities from the Pedalbikeaway centre - either mountain-biking or on off-road tracks round the forest for a more sedate afternoon.

This site may give you some more ideas: http://www.visitforestofdean.co.uk/

if it's not too late...have a chat with the folks at Preseli Venture in pembrokeshire...kayaking, coasteering, bikes, bar and fantastic instructors (ahem!)...seriously though, lots of people have very good weekends with them.
