MegaSack DRAW - This year's winner is user - rgwb
We will be in touch
I was wondering if anyone could offer some laptop buying advice. I currently have a brilliant little Samsung R60+ that I have had for the past 3 1/2 years. It has had very heavy use and has had the RAM upgraded to the max. It is now showing signs of wear (keyboard getting a bit shaky, doesn't always want to start up - HD problems? - runs slow despite lots of "maintenance" operations tried) and I need to replace it sooner rather than later, especially as I have a PhD to write up next year, so will be heavily reliant on a good computer.
I need to run SPSS regularly and also use NVivo and EndNote, all of which I think can be fairly demanding. I may also need to run some other fairly labour intensive packages next year, so am hoping to get something that is up to the job. I'm thinking that I should go for a 64 bit capable laptop, but in addition, I'm not sure what sort of capacity I should be looking at. Budget is in the region of £500-£750. I already have a licence for Office 2010 and can get hold of student software fairly cheaply if there is anything that needs adding.
I'd be really grateful if anyone could help me to start looking. I would be happy to go with Samsung again as the current laptop has been so good, but am willing to go on other recommendations.
Thank you in advance 🙂
