For my A-Level Extended project, I have to do a research task and do an essay-style report. The larger my sample, the better my data, so I would be hugely grateful if you could take 5 minutes (if that) out of your day to help me.

The file is available on Google Docs

Please leave your results in the comments click (insert -> comment) at the top for those of you who haven't used Docs before.

Thanks in advance,

TGB

use http://www.surveymonkey.com/

that doc requires me to type and stuff so consider this my help- probably stops you manually entering stats as well

You will increase your chances of obtaining a large data set if you make the survey as easy as possible - The Google Doc isn't.

Echo comments above re: surveymonkey

Seems a strange way to collect survey data, have a look at the link above. I think you'll get more people interested in filling it out.

Have filled out the doc, but as above it isn't the most user-friendly interface. It would help too if you explained what the survey was about, and what theory you were testing (e.g. older people don't like hip-hop or whatever)

Ok, will edit original post.

Edit: too late to edit original post:

The survey is about whether the music we listened to when we were young has an effect on what we like now.

The survey is up on surveymonkey here which should make things a bit easier. However, I may delete the original post and make a new one in order to direct people away from the google documents one.

SUggestions (and, yeh, surveymonkey or similar)

Current favourite song/artist:
fair enough

Preferred genre:
Classical[ ] Rock[ ] Pop[ ] Hip hop[ ] Jazz[ ] Other
Ask to specify if they say other - you may well find lots of people tick that one even though you might categorise their music into one of those groups

Do you listen to (a) lots of different music or (b) just one particular genre?a[ ] b[ ]
How about ranking the above list in prefernece order instead (or assigning loads / a bit / hardly any / none to each genre ?

Do you like chart music?Yes[ ] No[ ]
... (a bit / some of it's ok / quite a lot / god yeah i love it / ...) so how about "what % of music you listen to is chart music" with a few tickboxes as for your age ranges ?

What music did you listen to when you were young? Would you say this influences your choices today?

Do you (a) buy new music or (b) just listen to what you already own?
(or download/rip/...) How much of the music you listen to did you buy/download in the last year (or do you really mean "new music" in which case how much was released in the last ...?)

I'd repost with an new clear thread title, stating that it's a survey and what the survey is about. something like.

A-level Survey - Musical influences.

when you were young is a bit vague - I was a big pinky and perky fan when I was five

(a lot of us would consider that we were "young" when we were older than you probably are now)
