I think they came to market late 80s. They were quite thin and very smooth discs. Also they were sugar free and they felt cold on the tongue. And yes I ate too many and got traumatic wind and the shits!

Tina. I'm sure they were called tina.

Or maybe Alan.

A quick Google and I'm sure you'll find a local supply via facebook.

Dunno what they were, but most sweets, gum etc which is 'sugar free' contains xylitol or mannitol which produce the effects you describe.  I ODd on sugar free mints and gum once when trying to diet and produced enough toxic miasma to fill the Hindenburg. I swear I nearly died of flatulence.

Think these are the ones I remember too, really shiny and felt almost slippery on your tongue.

A mate ate a packet of something similar in a double maths lesson.

Ended up having to go home with a towel round himself and his clothes in a plastic bag.

We were 16 or 17...

Pretty sure that is velamints, they were the ones that supposedly had laxative properties.

They were deffo (Trebor) Coolmints. Finding it really tough to track down a photo of them to confirm though.

All before my time but cougar looks like he might be your winner.

Velamints were square.

Not sure coolmints were a thing*, this is trebor's 86 range. The mints and spearmint both fit the shape but not sure either was sugar free.

*I see your photo and stand corrected. But oddly very little to find on the internet.

Coolmints - and they had a mild laxativeeffect as they were an early sugar free product, that used sorbitol.

Mymother was a type 1 diabetic. We found out about this kind of stuff, including diabetic jams ect the hard way.

Yeah, Pacers were like stripy mint Opal Fruits. I have a very vague memory of them, I couldn't have been very old when they stopped making them.

Trebor mints are a minty bit stronger. Stick 'em up your bum and they last a bit longer.

All sugar free mints have that effect, but you have to take a serious amount. Artificial sweeteners cause it.

Whilst on the topic of mints... This had me thinking.. Anyone remember the name of the soft mints with a minty gloop inside? Was a weird experience eating those.
