help moe out here, i recall seeing a painting, maybe a turner (or similar) with a bomber added to it. Might have been The Hay Wain and it may have been a lancaster.
To be honest im not 100% it was Banksy but it was in the style ( i think)

sorry, its not a lot to go on and google images hasn't helped 🙂

My 11 year old daughter asked me last night why Banksy is allowed to do graffiti. How do I answer that? When does the line cross over from criminal activity to celebrated artist?

@ FrankSinatra - I'd recommend she watch the recent film by Agnes Varda, Faces Places, probably the best film about graffiti.

I'm a tour guide in Austria and one of my favourite places to bring people is Mural Harbour in Linz. The harbour master hated looking at boring buildings so invited famous graffiti artists from worldwide to paint on the buildings. He provides paint and access. The artists do the rest. Over 100 works of art in an industrial area.

He's done quite a few classic style paintings with modern things in them. Maybe mixing a couple up

When the wall is worth more with the graffiti than without.

Anyone else think Banksy is mostly a massively overated one-trick-pony?

Not me...I bought a one-off print several years ago while somewhat the worse for wear at a charity event. I hope he goes from strength to strength!

Underneath Waterloo Station in Lunnun the road has been closed to traffic and graffiti artists are encouraged to go and paint the walls. Some superb artwork down there, and it changes from day to day.

+1

Nope, not me. Every artist has their own style, his is just more accessible and via popularity more widely known.

I like his stuff.

Art should be encouraged, in whatever medium.

Sometimes - it can be simplistic to put it mildly [e.g. those paintings posted above are very bad IMHO, seen teenage internet memes with more artistry]. But it can also be fun, visceral - I think the medium of the street has to be about that impact and style.

If you like to get quite absorbed in a piece of art, figure it out, change your mind about it etc then that's clearly a different game.

Personally I do like his work, but Google "Blek le rat" - he's not quite as original as most people think...

I recall watching a short animated film based on the Haywain, ooh, probably 40 years ago that just appeared on one of the 4 channels available back then probably just after home time from school.

It started off with the Haywain pic, then someone walked in and took the horse away, then the haywain got towed away and then the pond drained and something built on it and it basically mirrored the 'progress' and speed of change of the of the last couple of hundred years and ended with motorways being built across, above and beneath it.

It's stuck with me to this day.

If that trick is standing out as original, challenging and provocative. Yes.

Precisely.
Thing is, he isn’t just a stencil artist, he works in a variety of media. I saw the exhibition that Bristol museum and art gallery put on, and it was outstanding! His works are always made with a strong political message, and with humour. It’s mostly thanks to Banksy that Bristol now features a huge variety of stunning artworks all over the city, and a regular street art festival featuring many of the top street artists.

True, wain with missiles is Peter Kennard.

O/T, but currently enjoying this one, with the current state of affairs.

Still creepy geex.

I just don't find Banksy very original. Paint the Commons full of primates, really?
