Possibly a bit of a long shot this, but I have unbounded faith in the STW collective mind...
I'm trying to get hold of a print of a photo which I saw in a magazine last year and subsequently lost... possibly the Observer Sport Monthly supplement but not 100% sure.
It was a black and white pic of some Tour de France riders, enjoying the hospitality of one of the villages en route. They are drinking beers and have a crowd of well-wishers about them - they may also be smoking tabs.. they look every inch the road-weary roulers... tweed caps, wool jerseys, inner tubes slung across their chests like bandoliers etc
I'm guessing the pic dates back to the 20s or 30s, possibly earlier as they have what look like fixed gear bikes.
It's a great shot and I'd love to get hold of a copy of it.
Any ideas?
Blimey that was quick. Cheers
Definitely on the right track (and great shot too) but not the one I'm thinking of.
Same period, possibly same location / photographer but it's more of a close up, and more of a dense crowd in the background.
Who is the photographer of that one?
No idea, was just the first google result, from this page
http://www.holgablog.com/2009/07/04/celebrating-the-tour-de-france-in-photography/
Nope, not that one either.
No photo credits on that holgablog page, but I'm pretty sure it's the same photographer. Not sure whether it's the same riders though.
