I'm using my back bedroom as an office - what would be the cheapest way of heating it? I have gas central heating - would that be the cheapest way even though it heats the whole house (don't really want to go round each day turning all the other rads off and back on again though)?
I know there are a lot of variables there! The central heating has six radiators if that gives an idea of how big the house is.
I just have a small thermostatic electric convection heater in my office.
I have my pc under my desk and a lot of the time the heat from that is enough to make the room (just) comfortably warm if I keep the door closed and wear a jumper but on colder days I have the heater on too.
Even with all the other radiators off the boilers still pumping hot water around the whole house.
Eat lots of baked beans and light your farts. You get fed and heated all for the price of a tin of Heinz...
Delonghi Dragon free-standing oil-filled electric radiator. Affordable, efficient, easy to move around and has a sensitive thermostat for accurate control.
ikea tea lights 8p a day 😀
The jumpers thing and free heat from the PC is great, I already do that, its just that most of my work involves using the mouse and its difficult with frozen hands!
Hmm, not sure how I missed the plant pot thread - I'm going to give that I go I think 🙂
pair of long johns and thermal vest under your trousers and top and regular application of deep heat cream.
Cheap as chips.

^ This.
They are efficient, and pump out a fair bit of heat. They are thermostat or timer controlled too usually.
Failing that, if you have Economy7 electricity what about a storage heater? Pretty useless for heating whole houses, but great for a small room, where a constant trickle of warmth is required.
Another vote for the DeLonghi Dragon. Fine for a smaller room, lots of settings and you can move it around. Has a timer too.
this place is letting itself down, not one suggestion for the dyson hot air fan?!? and you call yourselves middle-class!! pah!!
My top tip is a hot water bottle, put your feet on it. Instant underfloor heating. Lush.
