I miss commuting through London. 🙂

Loving the 'Happy to Help' folk applauding his taser experience.

thats not an ‘underground station’ thats the main concourse of London Bridge Rail station.

this should be referenced to the thread about what it means to be a man, it’s all there, alcohol, lack of internal dialogue, confusion, anger, testosterone, primal skills that are redundant in the modern world and generally a bit thick.

was great when he hit the deck though. 😆

Sad that everyone thinks it's funny when somebody gets tazered by the police.

Tit or not. They could've just arrested him. He's a gobshite in a suit not an armed robber. Lazy, brutal and uncivilised.

This has brightened up my day no end.

You can even spot the exact moment when his bowels give up the unequal struggle of continence in clear view of the commuting public.

We should do this to more of our politicians.

jambourgie: Did you watch the video?

He was aggressive and violent, threatening towards station staff, members of the public and the police. He wasn't calming down or listening to reason from his (presumed) partner.

Seems perfectly reasonable to taser him in that situation. Would it really have been more civilised and less brutal to have gone in mob-handed and subdued him by force?

You've never had to restrain a violent adult have you?

which option do you think has more risk of injury to both parties.

I'd give nurses, paramedics and firefighters tasers if I was in charge. Just for bellends like that

Put me in mind of...
Hello, Hello. My names Terry and I'm a law abider
There's nothing I like more than getting fired up on beer
And when the weekends here I to exercise my right to get paralytic and fight
Good bloke fairly
But I get well leery when geezers look at me funny
Bounce 'em round like bunnies
I'm likely to cause mischief
Good clean grief you must believe and I ain't no thief.
Law abiding and all, all legal.
And who cares about my liver when it feels good
What you need is some real manhood.

Unfortunately you'd end with people getting tasered for questioning a nurse why their sick relatives have been waiting 45 minutes to see a doctor....and so on.

He was a tit, I have little or no sympathy for him....but there's a kernel of something in jambourgie's misgivings. If that chap was suicidal, mentally disturbed etc then it's not exactly the right way to deal with him. He could easily have cracked his head off the floor, or just had a heart attack.

That's not the say that tackling him wouldn't have resulted in similar damage, but there were a few opportunities in the video where someone could have restrained him while he was distracted.

He'd also managed to take one the battons off the Police, lying on the floor where he fell.

Tasering him seems a pretty sensible thing to do in those circumstances.

If that chap was suicidal, mentally disturbed etc then it's not exactly the right way to deal with him.

It's a bit late once he's started kicking off in a public place...

He could easily have cracked his head off the floor, or just had a heart attack.

There's always that small risk, but you have to weigh that up with the risk to everyone else at the time.

You really think that ‘just arrest him’ would’ve worked. He was itching to swing his fists. Taser ensured nobody other than the dickhead was injured. Safest option I reckon.

He's not any of those things though, is he? He's a coked-up nobhead, kicking off with everyone, and generally being an arse. The police will have seen enough of them to identify them easily enough

Deserves everything he got IMHO

but there were a few opportunities in the video where someone could have restrained him while he was distracted.

It probably a bit different being there and having to respond to an unfolding situation. It easy in hindsight, watching the YouTube video to make those sort of judgements about what the police should have done.

In fact, i'd just arm every citizen from birth with a taser with only 5 non-refillable charges.

That sure would make life interesting.

I like the way it just looks like someone's tied his shoe laces together in the gif rather than being tasered. The full video clearly shows he deserved it though, he'd had plenty of time to calm down but wasn't (a few passengers getting involved likely didn't help admittedly). Had to tell but he looked pretty tall to, not sure I'd have wanted to try and wrestle him to the ground if he resisted arrest.

perhaps I heard it wrong, it wasn't clear, but my 10p worth is that its a sign of the times that they chose not to bleep it when he says the n-word and when he says 'darkies', even just for symbolic reasons. moreover, and I have no evidence for this, I imagine his anger had a racial aspect.

but maybe I am jumping to conclusions that all idiots like that are racists and that is making me hear things

Actually, should just install tasers in CCTV. That way anybody in a public place making a scene/protesting/being homeless etc could just be tasered remotely. That way you could pay police minimum wage and not bother training them to do anything.

I would've liked to have seen a member of the public take some responsibility and chin the whopper. Though I suppose he would've been tasered too...

He may be a legend in Margate, but he's a piss puddle on that station floor.

I think it showed the calmness and restraint of the Police. In other countries he wouldn't be sleeping it off in a cell afterwards.

And will forevermore be known sarcastically as legend.

Last time I spoke to a policeman he had a split lip and I remarked was it him I spoke to the week before as the policeman I spoke to the week before had a split lip.
He said no and the lip was quite common in his job.

People are quick to condemn police officers for being in their eyes to heavy handed. But when dealing with violent people why should they risk their health and injury. They did not create this situation the nobber did.

Not so long no ago before tasers he would have got a crack with the truncheon. And I would have had no sympathy with him then either.

You have a different definition of responsibility to me. He wasn't attacking anyone, so no need to intervene. Just wait for the Police to arrive....

Depends on skin colour eg in the US, if he was black, he'd have just been shot in the back about 600 times by the Police. If he was white, they'd have probably just threatened him with a gun and he'd have calmed down a bit.

He wasn't attacking anyone,

That's not true at all. He pushed a number of people, one person into a display stand, and also scuffled with people at the door throughout the video. I think those count as assault.

But the public shouldn't risk themselves in a situation like this, leave it to the professionals.

Only people who seemed to want to get involved rather than wait for the Police and even then he was just pushing, doesn't warrant a violent interaction which could easily escalate out of control. Leave him ranting until the pros turn up and taser him...

I'm not saying that to criticise the police with the benefit of hindsight - I'm just saying there were opportunities, just to make the point that tasering wasn't the only course of action.

Personally I think yes. It's a balance of risks.
If other actions would put the police or other members of the public at risk of serious harm, and tasering can be performed without additional risks, then on balance it is the best thing to do.

I agree it is far from ideal, but so is the situation.

Use of the taser should be investigated and justified later, like a use of firearms, to ensure it is used appropriately.

And the legend is...

As it turns out, Alan Parker Silver, 34, was charged with a Section 4 public order offence, received 150 hours of unpaid work, 150 hours of community work and a fine of £235. So that's what he's done.

If they're aggressive, have already assaulted several people, and are armed? **** yes, twice to be sure.

I'm just saying there were opportunities, just to make the point that tasering wasn't the only course of action.

Sure. Truncheons, AK-47s...

A big, armed, unstable bloke coked off his tits? I'd be wanting to subdue him from a distance too. I doubt "excuse me sir, would you mind awfully calming down a tad please?" would have had much of an effect. Maybe they could've offered him a cup of tea or something.

Bolas would be the best option but the taser-happy Met has recalled them all. Or get him to run over a stinger.

He's a big lad, he's insanely aggressive, he's off his bonce (whether drink or drugs or having some sort of episode, they can't know and it doesn't actually matter that much)... Taser doesn't seem so inappropriate. Nothing's completely safe or harmless in this situation.

What if, instead of being armed with deadly weapons (and sarcasm) they were trained to detain and subdue people? I'm guessing that would be a lot more expensive than a taser though.

Like what?
Sweet talking him wouldnt be likely to work.
Corralling him until whatever he is on wears off would tie up a lot of resources and still possibly end in tears.
Physically restraining him would have a good chance of him being hurt (problem with most holds is they rely on people being sensible enough to stop struggling before damage is done) or others being hurt.

Perchy, I have a nice collection of Tasers.
Tasers are a great bit of kit. minimal injury to officer or "customer"
Have been tasered myself in training. Not a nice experience at all.
But, officers options..
Baton [Steel bar]..has to be used up close and will hurt if used on a person
Spray .. need to be close up to use
Restraint...Not a chance...
Taser all the way
Or..offered him a sit down, comfy chushions and a discussion on the correct behaviour in a public place. 🙄
