From what the MoneyBox man said on Breakfast this morning, your employer would hand all your wages over to the HMRC. They would then deduct all the taxes and hand the rest on to you.
All sounds so simple in theory and would apparently save a load of money. But... as everyone knows the HMRC isn't know for its efficiency and I for one don't want to have to rely on them to pay my wages into my bank at the end of the month.
I find this proposal really rather scary!
Wait for the day the HMRC's computers crash. Then we would all learn the true meaning of the term "single point of failure".
seem to manage it for thieir own employees. Govt seems to manage to pay the millions of people who work for them. If it saves money and does not cost any jobs surely a good idea in the current climate?
Good God, no. HMRC are buffoons, plain and simple. 20 months and they're still sending my personal tax stuff to the company accountant and the company stuff direct to me. Countless letters with HMRC payment details on that are 6 months out of date. I wouldn't trust them with their money, never mind mine.
