Yes, the (v) means no eggs/bacon/cheese! I do wonder if life is worth* living anymore...

Anyways...

Overnight oats etc just aren’t cutting it! A combination of for me early starts at 05:30 and a significantly increased training load have me generally hungry all ******* the time.

I think changing the alarm time to 05:00 in order to make enough room for easy cooked breakfasts Might be worth doing. Any decent, fast recipe suggestions for the culinarily inept?

*😉

If you had a porridge drawer you could easily have a fry up.

No eggs?

Otherwise banana and egg - mush them together with fork. Throw in pan. Add blueberries. Make pancake. Then add maple syrup.

Look at Great British Porridge Company. Just add hot water...

I've been having banana, peanut butter and oat milk smoothies recently. Keeps me going until lunch and through a 3 hour ride.

2 X very ripe bananas
2 X tablespoons of peanut butter
Add oat milk and blitz.

I think beans may be making a frequent appearance, at least I don’t have to share an office space anymore and the windows can be as open as required without some nesh whiner complaining about a cold draft!

That is definitely worth a shot and extremely quick to prepare, thank you!

Shakshuka (spelling may be incorrect). Or at least the base sauce, skip the eggs and add a decent chunk of bread perhaps?

For smoothies - as above - but freezing bananas a plan - and makes smoothie cold. Also on top of peanut butter you can add Ovaltine or Nutella.

A couple of thick slices of toasted sourdough, piled with fried mushrooms, I could eat my own weight of that.

Another favourite is the sourdough, loads of avocado with garlic oil on top, and poached eggs all over that.

But, well, eggs.

You could add stuff to your porridge, fruit, nuts, seeds, etc. I resisted my OH's attempts to adulterate my porridge for some time, but now like it.

Why vegan? Ethical or perceived health? Just curious.

Yeah, sprinkle your overnight oats with nuts and seeds, or mix in peanut butter, or both, as i like to do. Although mine are overcommute oats, as I prefer them a bit al dente.

Never seen a boiled or poached egg make a man fat. Full of protein.

All the people recommending you bread for weight loss need a slap haha.

Most Oat milks are full of junk too - read the ingredients / nutrition list of most of the popular brands. That is why it tastes good! An Almond milk brand with clean ingredient list will help, or just plain water. Almond butter or 100% choc in the porridge is good...

What's up with oat milk @sillysilly ?

We use oatly and the ingredients look ok to me.

Normal: Oat base (water, oats 10%), rapeseed oil, calcium carbonate, calcium phosphates, iodised salt, vitamins (D2, riboflavin, B12).

Organic: Oat base (water, oats* 10%), sea salt.

We used to get almond milk but when you look at the water and transportation impact oat milk comes out better. Couple of interesting articles about it below. Not a fan of soya, don't like the taste. Water is obviously the best option and I use it for porridge, but it doesn't cut it for smoothies.

I go for a massive bowl of porridge most mornings made with 2/3 water 1/3 oat milk and add the following to the top:

- Raisins
- watermelon
- pineapple
- pumpkin seeds
- sunflower seeds
- blueberries
- honey

Marvellous.

We used to use Oatley, however Mrs B has gone off that due to the oil content. We now use the Aldi alternative which, according to the ingredients on the side, just contains water and oats.

@jeffl the production process creates maltose and glucose. It means you basically get a hit of sugar when not expecting. Some brands show it, others don’t because it’s not added but created during production. To make coffee for vegans it’s great but as a health product not so good IMO.

Agree environ concerns for all things almond and almond milk doesn’t make great coffee like oat. For porridge it’s good, also less messy than standard milk.

Dirty vegan!

https://www.dirtyvegan.tv/2019/04/05/the-full-hangover-pile-up/

Just finished one of these, but with veg sausage as I’m not a vegan, and some bacon as I’m not a vegetarian!

Currently laying on the sofa thinking a nap might be in order. I’m stuffed.

I chop nuts, slice a banana, 3 big spoons Skyr or similarly thick yoghurt, microwave some summer berries to top.

Guess I could add some oats for extra carbs...

Why vegan? Ethical or perceived health? Just curious.

Don't like eating things, or causing the death of things as part of the production process that can look me in the eye.

All the people recommending you bread for weight loss need a slap haha.

Food for weight loss is not a factor here. If anything I could do with increasing my calorie intake.

And that Dirty Vegan Fry Up looks superb.

A nice sossy sandwich using tiger bread, richmond meat free sausages and a bit of tommy sauce and mustard. After cutting out most meat products, I do miss a nice sausage (ooer) , but these hit the spot.

Loads of mushrooms, sliced up and drowned in olive oil. Fry with garlic for a long time to drive off the water from the mushrooms. Serve the delicious pile of umami flavour on the bread of your choice with the oil from cooking.

For me , vegetarian, I just tend to eat things like
Dhal
rice
Chilli - burrito breakfast
Moroccan stew
Cous cous of varying ingredients
Fresh salsa with roasted veg
Tofu scrambled or stir fried
Pretty much a small balanced meal.

Lots can be made prior, from fridge or freezer then heat , I do not have a microwave but that would be even easier.
Try avant-garde vegan on you tube...
No idea why we are so stuck to traditional views of breakfast.

I put a ‘luxury‘ porridge recipe on the non-dairy milk thread. No meat and dairy household means am often coming up with alternatives to satisfy brunchgeddon pangs

(Vegan) Sausage*, mushrooms, hash browns (or thick sourdough toast) and baked beans is a favourite

*Notable good-tasting ones:

- Richmonds meat-free sausages
- Naked Glory

tsk, link...

Also I love a big sarnie full of this is not bacon strips with some Daddies Sauce, maybe hot plum toms.

Bloody amazing. You have to fry the strips long enough to get the leathery bacon texture. Reviewer does a good job of that in this vid

No one's mentioned dates, dried figs, dried apricots. Add to toasted seeds, mix of natural toasted nuts.

Porridge first tho, get hydrated, do your stuff, then the nuts and seeds.

Bit like rocket fuel for me

+1 on db's dirty vegan but with shop bought sausage( I guess he or someone else from here posted it somewhen before). When I get the time I'll try making my own. It won't replace Sexy Sue's full English but recommended in this woke age.

I’m all for eating “normal” stuff for breakfast, as most of the world’s population manage ok without cereal, but I’d hate to set off on a long run or ride with a belly full of curried dhal or burritos...

So muesli it is - not the most inventive but I can be eating it 5 minutes after waking up to give it at least half a chance of settling before setting out.

I was shocked/impressed by the overall sausitude of the Richmonds meat-free snorgs. Added a local hen’s egg. Lush. Equally good with fried or tinned toms and a sprinkle of white pepper

White pepper? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Surely there must be a thread for foods that are a crime against nature my taste?

My go to.
Peanut butter and honey on a decent whole meal toast.
Greek yog and granola.

Or when no one is looking,
3 egg omelette with olives

Or when the Mrs is out of town,
FULL tin of spam sliced THICK banged in the microwave on white bread with a mixed condiment of mustard ketchup AND brown sauce,,,

Go on, you know you want it.

Honey and rice cakes. But honey may not be vegan. So use syrup instead. If you want fast, I like toasted potato waffles with a tin of tomatoes. Very fast and very tasty.
