Found some stuff I want on Gumtree. Its there any protection there in the same way as, say, Ebay? I've never used gumtree before.

None whatsoever - buyer beware - it's just an online version of a classifieds like here or your local newspaper. You should inspect goods and pay cash. That said, I've found bargains there and if I ever got the slightest feel of dodginess, walked away.

Yeah, don't hand over any money until you're in possession of the goods. Also, don't go to collect your goods on your own, especially if you're handing over a lot of money.

fine for small / low value items - people have been mugged turning up with £1000s in cash for cars....

I got a shag off gumtree once, landed me in the clinic, avoid!
