Just saw the other thread on using them on a guitar and then I remembered that about the time jeans with patches on were fashionable, for some reason so was wearing Grolsch bottle tops in your shoe laces.
Was this just something we did at our school or was it a nationwide thing?
We did it our school but had to be certain kind of shoe, a hush style thing but can't remember it's proper name.
We did. Small Scottish town.
Bros did it in Smash Hits iirc. I forget what the shoes were though.
They had it at our school too. Dont remember it lasting too long though.
Bros used to do it, so it must have been cool. 😆 (edit: too slow)
but yes it was a nationwide step in to the ridiculous.
Oh lord this could be more embarrassing than the Dave Bromance thread! Turns out that this was fashion idea inspired by the boy band Bros..
<hangs head in shame and shuffles off>
<edit> also too slow

Kickers if I remember correctly ( it was about 25 years ago!)
Doc Martens shoes.
Yeah Kickers that was them.
Don't think it was kickers? Thankfully I didn't do it as I was into southern death cult, etc so had much better taste.
I wasn't allowed them as my dad wouldn't drink that pish , gutted at the time but better for it now 🙂
I used to wear them on the laces of my olive green Doc Marten shoes. 'twas very cool.

Grolsch certainly wasn't pish, unlike all the draught rubbish in the pubs, it was proper lager brewed in Holland, and I drove home one night after drinking three bottles, and realised that there was no way I ought to be behind the wheel. (Pre breathaliser). About 5.5ABV, IIRC.
Got very drunk on it one night, quite put me off it, haven't drunk it since.
Never knew you were in your 60s CountZero.
This did not happen in South Africa as far as I can remember, first I've heard of it was hear and now. Did like the lads back then, any chance of a pic of said fashion? My interweb skilz has found nowt.
Grolsch bottle tops? pfft! VW badges were where it was at
An idiot I used to go to school with wore a wall clock round his neck in an attempt to replicate Flava Flav 😆
Kickers? Pffft. Adidas Tenerife were considered haute footure round our way. Nowhere to hang Grolsch stoppers from though.

Don't worry fella, it's the least of your family's fashion faux-pas. Remember Alex's dungarees? 😯
BB - that made me proper laugh out loud. Thanks for that gem 😆
In the 80s I'd wear navy blue bib and braces with a shirt and tie, white socks and desert boots. And I thought I looked ACE!!!
Wasn't it Bros who started the Grolsch bottle tops on shoes trend?
Remember Alex's dungarees?
Not the mention the bottle of sun-in he got his hands on. The summer of 89 was the summer went ginger 😯
I think it might have been a trend started my seminal boy band 'Bros.' I can't be sure though.
